Omikron Yachts made a striking debut at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, where the new brand of Greek nautical landmark Olympic Marine showcased its innovative approach to yachting, emphasizing its commitment to sustainability, technological advancement, and high-quality design.
During its press conference, Omikron’s management provided insights into the OT-60’s success and developments, the upcoming OT-80 and the company’s dedication to redefining modern yachting.
The OT-60’s Success Story
Nikolas Dendrinos, Chairman of Olympic Marine, highlighted the strong market response to Omikron’s debut model, the OT-60, with four hulls already delivered while the fifth one will be delivered next month.
The yacht, with a hull made to measure by naval architect Juan Kouyoumdjian and interior and exterior design by Lorenzo Argento, is renowned for ensuring an exceptionally pleasant and relaxing cruising experience. The shipyard is currently working on developments to integrate hybrid propulsion systems and LIFO lithium battery banks, further solidifying the company’s commitment to more mindful solutions. These innovations are set to enhance both performance and eco-efficiency, aligning with Omikron’s responsible and gentle yachting philosophy.
A Commitment to Slow Yachting
During the conference, Omikron reconfirmed its dedication to the Slow Yachting concept at the heart of the brand’s vision, which encourages conscious and relaxed cruising while minimizing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The OT-60, designed with materials that ensure greater product longevity and conceived with easygoing and mindful navigation in mind, represents a new era of responsible yachting. The brand has positioned itself at the forefront of environmentally conscious luxury yacht design, likening its approach to the automotive industry’s shift towards sustainable mobility. While fuel consumption has increasingly become a primary driver in car development, the yachting industry has yet to fully embrace this trend. Omikron is leading the way with its dedication to reducing environmental impact through innovative technologies, setting a new standard for eco-friendly yachting.
The OT-80: Expanding the Vision
The press conference also provided a preview of the upcoming OT-80, the new model by the Greek brand announced earlier this year at boot Düsseldorf and evolution of the OT-60.
With an enclosed flybridge, a transatlantic range, and enhanced efficiency, the OT-80 is designed as a “local explorer”, an ocean-crossing capable vessel equally suited to shorter voyages, able to provide assurance in any weather condition. The yacht offers increased space, including a separated crew area, for owners and guests seeking adventure in comfort.
The OT-80 sees the renewal of the collaboration between Omikron’s team and naval architect Juan Kouyoumdjian, known for his work on winning Volvo Ocean Race boats and his involvement with the America’s Cup and top racing sailing boat projects. His extensive expertise in yacht design has greatly influenced the development of the OT series, bringing to life vessels that perfectly embody the brand’s vision of efficiency and seakeeping.
Yacht designer Lorenzo Argento also returns to collaborate with Omikron. With his unique approach, referred to as “Gentle by Design”, he emphasizes the harmonious balance between elegance, comfort, and eco-friendly design, a hallmark of the OT series.
Award-Winning Excellence
Omikron Yachts’ innovative and fresh approach to yachting has already garnered significant acclaim. The company’s debut model, the OT-60, was honored with the “Best Revelation of the Year” award during the prestigious World Yacht Trophies ceremony, concluding the shipyard’s first successful appearance at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
This accolade recognizes the OT-60’s exceptional design, innovation, and contribution to a more sustainable future for the sector, further solidifying Omikron’s status as a trailblazer in the luxury yachting industry.
