Carlton Cannes, A Regent Hotel is named amongst the world’s most exceptional hotels, selected by hundreds of hospitality experts.
Since 2023, hundreds of leading travel experts, hoteliers, journalists and seasoned travellers have shortlisted The World’s 50 Best Hotels. This annual accolade has fast become a global benchmark, celebrating properties at the pinnacle of hospitality excellence. This year, Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel has been recognised within the 2026 extended list, marking the first inclusion of a Regent hotel following IHG’s reimagining of the brand.
Tom Rowntree, Vice President of Luxury & Lifestyle Brands at IHG Hotels & Resorts said: “This recognition is a testament to Pierre-Louis Renou, General Manager, and the team of Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel. Making a lasting impression with the breadth of anonymous 50 Best contributors and meeting the rigorous selection criteria demonstrates the team’s consistent ability to operate at an exceptionally high standard. Carlton Cannes is a hotel with a reputation for a reason. One which is flying the flag for Regent and championing all that IHG is doing to forward the brand for today’s upper luxury guest.”
Originally opened in 1913, Carlton Cannes has been an icon on the Riviera for the last 100 years, long regarded as one of the French Riviera’s most iconic hotels and famously the first luxury hotel to open in Cannes. For decades since and still today, the hotel stands as a jewel of the Cote d’Azur revered by film stars, presidents and luxury guests.
Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel emerged from a historic metamorphosis in March 2023 operated by the hotel’s owner Katara Hospitality, marking one of several flagship openings which in recent years have ushered in a new era for Regent. Since its acquisition in 2018, IHG has embarked on a carefully curated revitalisation of Regent to cement its position in the minds of the UHNWI and the epitome of modern upper luxury.
Pierre-Louis Renou, General Manager of Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel said: “It is a privilege to stand amongst such great company within this year’s World’s 50 Best Hotels extended list. This is a tribute to the remarkable team of our hotel who are the individuals bringing its story to life every day for every guest. It is a great honour to steward such an icon which continues to hold such a special place in the hearts of so many.”
Guests have made grand entrances through the doors of Regent addresses for more than a century. Known for hosting the established elite, from film stars to presidents, over the years, Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel has become a storied hotel with many tales to tell. The hotel was featured in Elton John’s I’m Still Standing music video, while Alfred Hitchcock chose the Carlton as the location to film ‘To Catch A Thief’ starring Grace Kelly and Cary Grant and it was here that Kelly met Prince Rainier III of Monaco whilst filming.
Born in 1970, and now part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ leading luxury and lifestyle portfolio, Regent’s collection of modern hotels and resorts has grown to 11 open hotels, including Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, Regent Hong Kong and Regent Santa Monica Beach, with a further 12 properties in development, including Regent Kuala Lumpur and Regent Sanya Haitang Bay.
