MARNET Engineering consulting S.A. | The Marina Pioneers

When it comes to efficient marine works engineering and environmental solutions, the successful 30-year course of MARNET S.A places itself on center stage.

With a rich history spanning over three decades, the Marine Applied Research and New Technologies S.A. (MARNET S.A.) has demonstrated unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability in every project undertaken. It is the engineering and designing “brain” behind more than 450 marine works projects of all types and sizes, in Greece and abroad, including some of the largest ports in the country. It is no coincidence that MARNET has been involved in more than 50 marina and yacht shelter projects. The largest and most prestigious tourist port facilities in Greece are among them and this clearly shapes its unique contribution to the development of Greek yachting.

Established in 1993, MARNET has evolved into a leading engineering consulting firm specializing in port, coastal, mechanical and environmental engineering. At the heart of the company’s success lies its team of experts, each of whose members brings a wealth of experience in engineering design and research. Moreover, MARNET fosters collaborations with a diverse network of consultants across various disciplines, ensuring access to specialized expertise tailored to the unique requirements of each project.

The marine works sector (port & harbor) is the main field of MARNET’s activities. The company also covers relevant fields of expertise, such as environment & sustainability, coastal protection, electromechanical infrastructure and a lot more. MARNET’s portfolio encompasses a comprehensive suite of services pertaining to the development of marine works, as well as the provision of engineering consulting services, namely feasibility studies, conceptual, preliminary and detailed design, IFC drawings and tender documents compilation, Environmental Impact Studies, project and construction management, technical advisory services, etc.

Fields of Expertise

Beyond its domestic presence, MARNET has made significant contributions to marine engineering consulting on a global scale. Its involvement in some of Greece’s largest ports underscores its capacity to undertake projects of international significance. Moreover, its engagements abroad showcase its reputation as a trusted partner in delivering innovative solutions tailored to diverse geographical and regulatory contexts.

In particular, as a key player in designing, permitting and supervising the construction of tourist ports, MARNET has shaped its vision in mega projects, such as the Athens Olympic Sailing Center (Ellinikon Marina), Flisvos Marina, Astir Vouliagmeni Marina, Alimos Marina, Lefkas Marina, Gouvia Marina (Corfu), Marina Elounda Hills (Crete), etc. It has also put its signature on numerous prestigious small-scale marinas and yacht shelters, such as the Miraggio Resort Yacht Shelter(Chalkidiki), the Blue Iris Yacht Shelter(Mykonos), Odysseas Marina (Meganisi), Spilia Yacht Shelter (Corfu), Nydri Yacht Shelter (Lefkas). For the implementation of these projects MARNET has successfully worked together with prominent investors, marina and hotel operators and real-estate developers, indicatively D-Marin Investments Holding b.v. (Dogus Group), AGC, K&G Med Marinas Management, Lamda Marinas S.A., Hellinikon S.A., NCH Advisors Inc., MIRUM Hellas, LEPTOS Group, SETUR Servis Turistik a.s. (Koc Group), Limassol Marina ltd., AMAN Resorts, etc.

At this point, it is worth adding that MARNET has successfully implemented the design and permitting of approximately 40% (5,000 out of 12,500) of the existing licensed berths for yachts of all sizes in the country. Considering also the company’s ongoing projects, which are currently in the design or permitting phase, it is expected that approximately 5,000 berths will be added to the total country capacity in the coming years. The majority of the above berths will be provided in high-end large-scale marina projects such as Santorini Marina, Vlyho Lefkas Marina, Palairos Marina etc.

Concerning marina privatization transactions, MARNET possesses a vast experience gained through the participation in several projects, in which it provided a variety of technical advisory services. The company acted as Technical and Commercial Advisor of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund for transactions of international importance, namely the sale of the majority stake of the two largest ports of Greece, Piraeus and Thessaloniki. Similar services are provided by MARNET in almost all tenders launched by HRADF for the marinas belonging to the HRADF portfolio, e.g. Mykonos Marina, Alimos Marina, Chios Marina, Mandraki Rhodes Marina, Megayacht Marina Corfu, Thesaloniki Marina etc. Furthermore, MARNET has provided technical advisory services in several tenders regarding port and marina concessions, either to the public authority (sell-side) or to the concessionaire (buy-side).

As MARNET S.A. continues to chart new frontiers in marine engineering and environmental stewardship with a track record of exemplary performance and dedication to collaborative innovation, the company stands poised to shape the future of marine infrastructure development while safeguarding the ecological integrity of coastal environments worldwide.
