Superyachts designed by world-class sailor Philippe Briand took a number of podium places at this year’s Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta 2016, at which a record number of vessels participated for the sixth edition.
Over three days, from 10 to 12 March, 21 superyachts from the most prestigious designers and shipyards came together across four classes to battle it out on the course in excellent conditions off the British Virgin Islands.
After several days of closely fought races, a trio of Philippe Briand-designed superyachts finished in the top three of the two highest-performance classes of the competition. Having jostled for the pole position in her class with S/Y Nilaya over the duration of the weekend, 33.4m Vitters-built S/Y Inouï, a carbon composite sloop with naval architecture and exterior design from Philippe Briand, took second place in Class A, the most high-performance of the classes in the regatta.
Finishing just behind Inouï was Briand’s 42.3m S/Y Samurai (ex-Mari Cha IV), which was third overall in Class B. The Briand-designed, Perini Navi-built 38.0m S/Y P2 took the top prize for Class B overall, having closely fought against S/Y Hetairos all week.
