First Bestevaer 45ST Pure Approaching Completion

During the recent Düsseldorf boatshow ‘BOOT’ a great deal of interest was shown in the new Bestevaer 45ST PURE on KM Yachtbuilders stand.

This project was of particular interest to couples no longer wanting to handle a large yacht on their own or sailors looking for a safe and strong yacht for sailing in cold climates. Building the Bestevaer 45ST PURE as a production yacht makes it possible to keep the price lower than a comparable custom built aluminium yacht, which naturally makes it a very tempting proposition.

The first Bestevaer 45ST PURE, designed by Dykstra Naval Architects, is now approaching completion. ‘Nescio’, as she has been named, is due to be christened on the 23rd April. This date coincides with KM Yachtbuilders annual Open Day. Everybody is warmly invited to drop by and have a look on board.

The idea behind the PURE is to provide a strong, safe yacht with good sailing qualities. Unlike a custom built yacht, the dimensions, locations of the watertight bulkheads and shape of the pilot house cannot be altered. The onboard systems are also the same for each yacht. That means that the engineering department will not have to create new drawings for each yacht. The yacht’s exterior will usually be left unpainted as brushed aluminium, other than on the walking surfaces. Another option is to ‘wrap’ the vertical sections of the pilot house or the cockpit with vinyl.

The interior is also pure. The floors are made of American walnut, the cabinetry of bamboo and the walls and ceilings are white HPL for a light and bright interior. ‘Nescio’s layout is with the owner’s cabin forward, a guest cabin aft to starboard and an extra berth to port, which can also be used for storage. The galley is U-shaped. The salon has two, two metre long couches. The table has folding leaves and covers the centreboard cabinet in that version although the PURE has a fixed keel as standard with a centreboard as an option.

For owners wishing to choose more for themselves there is of course an options list – as one would expect of a custom shipyard. Teak rather than cork in the cockpit, a diesel heater in the salon, or perhaps a carbon mast? No problem. Eeuwe Kooi, owner of KM Yachtbuilders:
“There are many people who really aren’t interested in having to make all the decisions involved in having a custom yacht built. They’re perfectly happy with a production yacht, and if they can provide some input for certain details that’s a nice added extra. The PURE is a good fit for that purpose: a strong aluminium hull, the sailing qualities that the Bestevaer is known for and delivered ready for the water by a Dutch shipyard. The second PURE has now been sold, and we’re making good progress with a third customer.”

During the Open Day on the 23rd April you will be able to find out all you want to know about the PURE; we will also be able to tell you all about the other yachts we have built or refitted. There will be several custom-built and refitted yachts on display, as well as a range of previously-owned yachts.
