Boot 2025: FIM presents the new Contessa Sport Fly Series

FIM|Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi unveiled the new Contessa sport fly Series at Boot Düsseldorf 2025, marking a significant evolution for the shipyard, which was established in 2019 by Corrado Piccinelli, Manuela Barcella, and Vannis Marchi.

With the 560 Contessa and 640 Contessa sport fly yachts, FIM enters the larger yacht segment, a strategic move to strengthen its presence in international markets with a unique and recognizable Fly Bridge lineup.

“For an emerging shipyard like ours, carving out a space in the nautical market is a complex challenge,” says Corrado Piccinelli, CEO of FIM. “Our strategy is based on focusing on specific niches and striving for excellence. The Contessa Series represents a pivotal transition, moving from the refined Regina open walkaround yachts to a new category: sport fly yachts. This evolution allows FIM to explore new market opportunities while maintaining the sporty DNA and distinctive design that have always defined our yachts.”

The decision to enter the flybridge segment was the result of months of research and collaboration with commercial partners and designers. “We wanted to create something that was not just functional but also a true representation of our values: a yacht that blends aesthetics, performance, and innovation,” adds Manuela Barcella, CEO of FIM.

“With the Contessa Series, FIM targets a demanding audience, combining harmonious lines, water agility, and a design that is both modern and timeless.”

Expanding its fleet, FIM ventures into the Fly Bridge segment, a category appreciated in diverse markets, from the warm Mediterranean to cooler northern waters.

“Our goal is not just to build distinctive yachts but also to embody values like excellence, quality, and a deep connection with the nautical heritage of Lake Iseo, home to many renowned shipyards,” explains Massimo Radice, General Manager of FIM and chief of the development of the Contessa Series.

As with the Regina line, the exterior design of the Contessa Series involved a collaboration with DesignaLOT Studio. “With the 560 Contessa and the flagship 640 Contessa, we aimed to evolve the design elements introduced with the Regina range while adding more: sporty coupé yachts enhanced by a compact yet functional flybridge that amplifies the onboard experience,” says designer Alessandro Lottici.

THE FLAGSHIP: 640 CONTESSA

At the Düsseldorf press conference, Massimo Radice unveiled details of the 640 Contessa flagship, which embodies three core elements: Italian DNA complemented by international design collaboration, performance, and innovation.

The yacht’s exterior features dynamic yet elegant lines and details. The deep hull moldings, wind-sculpted contours, and distinctive, expansive stern reflect meticulous craftsmanship. The seamlessly integrated, sporty flybridge offers versatile spaces, including a sun deck and a raised helm station convertible into a lounge.

Beyond the flybridge, the yacht boasts a slatted roof that transforms the salon into an open, sunlit space, reminiscent of coupé yachts. Foldable terraces further eliminate barriers to the sea, forging a direct connection with the surrounding environment.

The design of the 640 Contessa reflects a synergy between Alessandro Lottici, responsible for the exterior design, and Designworks, the innovation studio of the BMW Group.  The partnership with Designworks developed across multiple levels, from the interior design concept—characterized by an essential layout, natural light, and expansive spaces with generous windows—to the creation of a unique “FIM driving experience”.

The Munich-based team of designers and professionals also contributed to the selection of innovative materials inspired by the automotive world. One of the standout features is the advanced lighting system, which allows for customizable onboard atmospheres depending on the desired use, transforming the yacht into a relaxing oasis or a vibrant entertainment space with a simple touch.

“In the automotive world, experience design plays a key role in addressing the individual needs and desires of customers, maximizing client satisfaction, and strengthening brand identity. The 640 Contessa is a yacht for all the senses, offering a rich, premium experience through its uncompromisingly extravagant design, which will clearly differentiate the yacht in the market,” says Tom Allemeier, Creative Design Director at BMW Group Designworks.

The 640 Contessa offers a spacious and functional layout with three cabins and three bathrooms, including a centrally located master suite. The third cabin is uniquely multifunctional, featuring a sliding door that allows it to integrate seamlessly with the lobby, creating a flexible and versatile open space.

The upper salon is a welcoming area, enriched by a generous dinette and a strategically positioned kitchen at its entrance. A fully opening door connects the aft cockpit to the salon, creating a bar-like area that opens to the exterior for enhanced conviviality. Additionally, the forward section of the roof features an innovative lamella system that brings in natural light and offers an open view of the sky.

The 640 Contessa also includes a crew cabin located at the bow, accessed directly from the foredeck. This cabin is equipped with two beds and a separate bathroom, providing functional and dedicated spaces for the crew. Positioning the crew cabin at the bow enhances guest privacy while keeping the aft cockpit free for other uses. This area is designed to house a tender garage, optimizing space and facilitating onboard operations.

Currently in advanced development and set to be built at FIM’s facilities in Cividate al Piano, the 640 Contessa is scheduled for launch in autumn 2026.
