Haze²: Winner of the World Superyacht Awards 2026

Hydro Tec’s Haze² wins international acclaim, modernizing the iconic Darwin Class DNA with contemporary design, advanced engineering, and robust explorer performance.

This recognition consolidates a well-established trajectory: over the past ten years, Hydro Tec has consistently been a finalist across multiple categories, particularly in the 30–50 metre segment, where it stands out as a benchmark in the explorer yacht sector. Alongside this continuity, the studio has also regularly delivered winning vessels; in 2026 this role is represented precisely by Haze². The owner’s vision for Haze² was to “create a genuinely robust, autonomous and comfortable explorer yacht – something that combines proven reliability with the latest innovations in naval engineering.” The aim was to pay tribute to the heritage of the Darwin Class built by Cantiere delle Marche, for which Hydro Tec has over time handled the exterior design and engineering of all units.

Born fifteen years ago as the first project of Cantiere delle Marche, the Darwin Class today represents a solid and long-standing collaboration. Hydro Tec is particularly satisfied with this shared journey which, now reaching its sixteenth unit, sees Haze² achieve significant international recognition, confirming the value of a consistent design vision over time. Fifteen years after the launch of the first Darwin, the Darwin Class continues to be a benchmark in the explorer segment. With Haze² – the sixteenth unit in the series – Hydro Tec reinterprets the original DNA of the range in a contemporary key, preserving the values of solidity, safety and efficiency that ensured its success, while introducing a more modern, dynamic and sophisticated design language. The judges appreciated the project’s coherence in reinterpreting the Darwin Class, combining the reliability and robustness of the series with a more contemporary design language and advanced technological solutions.

The exterior design by Hydro Tec marks a significant evolution of the Darwin Class, with sharper, more angular lines and a completely redesigned forward superstructure that gives the yacht a more decisive and contemporary character. The rebalanced proportions enhance verticality and dynamism, improving the perceived lightness of the profile. The extensive use of glass, from the superstructure windows to the roll bar and hardtop, strengthens the connection between interior and exterior, increasing brightness and visual continuity. Custom teak exterior furnishings introduce material warmth, creating a refined balance between technology and craftsmanship. Among the distinctive features is the fully integrated tender crane within the aft overhang of the sun deck superstructure, a solution that combines functionality and aesthetics, preserves clean lines, and frees up space on the upper deck.

The judges also highlighted the overall high quality of the project, particularly appreciating the effectiveness of Hydro Tec’s engineering solutions in terms of hydrodynamic efficiency, energy optimisation, and systems integration, all essential for reliable long-range cruising in all conditions. From an engineering standpoint, Hydro Tec developed Haze² following a philosophy based on integration, reliability and performance. The steel hull and aluminium superstructure optimise the centre of gravity, improving stability and onboard comfort while reducing rolling and pitching. Hydrodynamic efficiency was refined through advanced simulations, balancing range, consumption and onboard comfort. Among the proven solutions of the Darwin Class is the double skeg, ensuring directional stability and protection for rudders and propellers. All onboard systems are designed for integration and
accessibility, facilitating maintenance and operations and ensuring reliability even in the most demanding voyages.

Every engineering choice was guided by the goal of harmonising technology and design, ensuring that Haze² ’s modern aesthetic language is also translated into concrete, safe and high-performance solutions, confirming Hydro Tec’s distinctive approach to the design of Darwin Series explorer yachts. The interiors, designed by London-based studio Lawson Robb, complete the project with a contemporary and material- driven language featuring open-pore woods, brushed bronze, mosaic details, and a neutral palette enriched with colour accents, selected artworks, and a careful study of lighting between sculptural elements and indirect illumination.

The victory of Haze² represents not only the recognition of a single project, but also the confirmation of a design
journey that for over fifteen years has seen Hydro Tec committed to the development and evolution of the Darwin
Class, now reaching sixteen built units and continuously renewed through ongoing research, innovation and design consistency, translating into tangible results and international accolades.
