Heesen launches second hybrid yacht

Heesen delights in announcing the launch of the second hybrid yacht in the 5000 aluminium FDHF class, a yacht with a distinctive exterior and a progressive and über-efficient shallow-draft hull.

The proven and versatile hybrid propulsion package combines a conventional diesel propulsion with and efficient diesel-electric propulsion. YN 19150 – Project Electra – is the successor to motor yacht Home, which received international accolades for its innovative and eco-friendly propulsion system and fast displacement hull design. Compared to a traditional diesel engine arrangement, the hybrid power and propulsion system chosen by Heesen is quieter and more fuel-efficient.

It offers cost-saving benefits and flexible power management as the yacht operates in four different cruising modes:

Hybrid Mode: up to 9 knots at noise levels of just 46dB, equivalent to soft rain! Two water-cooled DC electric shaft motors of 127kW each quietly power the yacht. The benefits are silent cruising and higher manoeuvrability in close quarters.

Economic Mode: Speeds of 9-12 knots with main engines on and generators off. Ideal for longer passages, this mode comes with several interesting perks – frugal fuel consumption (at 12 knots the yacht burns only 98 litres per hour) and extended generator life.

Cruising Mode: Speeds of 12-15 knots. This is the traditional mode, where the diesel engines drive the yacht’s propellers and the generators supply the hotel electrical demand.

Boost Mode: For top speed of 16.3 knots. Generator-powered shaft motors are brought into service alongside the main engines giving an extra kick of power to the gearbox.

Electra’s high-tech heart is wrapped in a contemporary design package that comes in just below the 500GT threshold. Frank Laupman of Omega Architects penned her distinctive profile. A near-vertical bow, long waterline and extensive use of glass characterise her exterior lines. The layout offers plenty of outdoor living areas. From the spacious sundeck with Jacuzzi, to the relaxation area in front of the wheelhouse, outdoor dining on the bridge deck aft, the lounging area on the main deck aft, and a fixed swim platform, every centimetre is conceived to help guests enjoy life at sea.

Italian designer Cristiano Gatto created a contemporary interior that exudes a sense of elegant calm. The flowing, organic curves of custom furniture and low cabinetry allow guests to enjoy spectacular vistas from the floor-to-ceiling windows flooding the interior with natural light. Dark oak flooring and mullions contrast the pale colours of the panelling and cabinetry to emphasise space through the yacht while the grand staircase adds just a touch of drama.

Twelve guests sleep in six staterooms with private en-suite bathrooms. Traditionally located on the main deck forward, the master suite comprises an office, a bedroom that spans the full beam and bathroom with large marble shower, large vanity and separate toilet room. The remaining guests reside on the lower deck in a full beam VIP, two twins and two double suites, all with direct access to a fully equipped gym with sauna aft.

After completing the commissioning of her systems, Project Electra will undergo intensive sea trials in the North Sea and is due for delivery in April 2020.
