Rossinavi Announces 180-Foot Zephyr Superyacht

Zephyr re-imagines superyachts as the sports cars of the sea, with an exterior inspired by classic car design from the ‘50s and ‘60s and a high-performance hull capable of crossing the Atlantic and reaching 32 knots

Built by Rossinavi, the only family owned and operated shipyard in Italy, Zephyr represents a new type of dynamism in superyacht design, with a mixture of livable space, high performance, low consumption, advanced technology and futuristic look.

In designing the Zephyr, Milan-based designer Federico Fiorentino pulled from his background in racing and powerboat design, looking to the bodywork of 50’s and 60’s muscle cars and sports cars to connect traditional symbols of speed onto the new high-performance superyacht. Zephyr is also unique in its flexibility of use: it is capability for high-speed and long range journeys, but the shallow draft of the hull also makes it an ideal day boat for short trips from port to port.

Zephyr’s Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) is a radical new concept patented by Van Oossanen Naval Architects, the Netherlands-based naval architects and hydrodynamicists with over 25 years of experience in yacht architecture and hull optimisation. Built to deliver the best performance at the highest and lowest speed ranges, the fast displacement hull allows Zephyr to deliver more speed and more interior space than the previous generation of hulls. The FDHF will revolutionize the flexibility in superyacht length and tonnage for future yacht design.

Zephyr’s design also strives to bring the owners closer to the sea. The exterior design achieves this with a 300-square-metre beach area covering the aft deck, which leads to an elevated sun-bathing terrace. The 5-metre long swimming pool has transparent walls leading to the sea and care has been taken to ensure the view from every point on the decks is exceptional.

This vision of openness is carried throughout the interior of Zephyr by Pisa-based interior design firm Pulina. Interior spaces are wide and spacious and the surfaces are transparent or reflective, emphasising ocean views.
