Benetti Motopanfilo 45M: Reinterpreting classic naval heritage

Benetti’s new steel Motopanfilo 45M merges classical heritage with modern design, utilizing an innovative open-sided salon to maximize ocean connectivity.

With the introduction of the steel Motopanfilo 45M, Benetti reinterprets its historic design legacy for the modern era. Defined by the shipyard as a “third-millennium Navetta,” the vessel merges classical elegance with a contemporary ocean lifestyle, utilizing advanced layout solutions to maximize the connection between the interior and the marine environment.

The Architectural Innovation of the Veranda Deck

At the core of the Motopanfilo 45M’s design philosophy is the introduction of the Veranda Deck. This structural innovation addresses a growing demand in the global luxury market for removing the boundaries between the interior and exterior living spaces of motor yachts. By utilizing advanced engineering solutions, the full-beam Main Salon can be opened entirely on three separate sides. This structural flexibility transforms the traditional enclosed salon into a continuous, 25-meter-long open-air environment. The resulting layout effectively merges the primary indoor living area with the aft deck, establishing an expansive, single-level continuum that maximizes natural ventilation and offers unobstructed, immersive views of the sea.

Exterior Aesthetics: Linear Purity and Historical Homage

The exterior profile of the Motopanfilo 45M, developed cooperatively by the Azimut|Benetti R&D Department, Pierluigi Ausonio Naval Architecture, and the renowned design studio RWD, exhibits an essential and linear aesthetic. The vessel’s lines draw clear inspiration from both architectural structures and automotive design, resulting in a balanced, athletic, and graceful silhouette. The purity of the design relies heavily on flush-mounted construction details. Extensive glazed surfaces are integrated seamlessly into the hull, paired with substantial overhead overhangs that provide shade while maintaining a smooth and continuous exterior allure. While the proportions conform to modern standards, the yacht retains explicit links to Benetti’s origins, as the traditional bronze ribbon along the hull sides works in tandem with an extensive Observation Deck to celebrate the classic beauty of mid-century yachting.

Understated luxury with Natural Light

The interior spaces, conceptualized and executed by the architectural firm Lazzarini & Pickering Architetti, follow the structural logic established by the exterior design. Rather than opting for a heavy or ostentatious display of opulence, the designers focused on an aesthetic of understated, informal luxury designed to keep guests in constant contact with nature. Conceived as a direct interior extension of the open-air Veranda Deck®, the living spaces attract an abundance of natural light. This is achieved through a carefully calculated arrangement of large rectangular hull windows and traditional round portholes. The choice of organic materials and clean geometric forms enhances the overall sense of luminosity, creating a highly sophisticated yet relaxed onboard atmosphere.

The Master Suite: Expansive Volume and Flexible Configurations

The owner’s private accommodations occupy a substantial portion of the yacht’s volume, offering over 60 square meters of highly personalized space. The standard configuration features a private studio lounge at the primary entrance, leading into the main bedroom area, and concluding in a full-beam double bathroom. A defining aesthetic element of this suite consists of the distinctively inclined windows, which simultaneously evoke vintage maritime architecture and strongly characterize the vessel’s exterior profile. For owners desiring alternative arrangements, Benetti offers a flexible structural layout. Upon request, the Master Suite can be relocated to the stern of the Upper Deck, where it gains direct access to an exclusive private terrace. In this alternative configuration, the bow section is repurposed into an expansive outdoor lounge with a flexible identity, showcasing the platform’s adaptability to varying operational preferences.

Technical Specifications

Built upon a robust steel hull and naval platform engineered by Pierluigi Ausonio, the Motopanfilo 45M balances high internal volume with long-range ocean efficiency. With a total displacement of 430 tons at full load, the vessel is engineered for extended Mediterranean and transoceanic cruising. The vessel features a length overall of 44.55 meters, which converts to 146 feet 2 inches, a maximum beam of 9.10 meters or 29 feet 10 inches, and a maximum draft of 2.45 meters or 8 feet. It delivers an operational range of 4,100 nautical miles while cruising at an economical speed of 10 knots. The internal layout is optimized to accommodate 10 guests across 5 well-appointed luxury cabins, ensuring high levels of privacy and comfort. Operational efficiency and premium service standards are maintained by a designated crew complement of 9 individuals, safely housed within 5 dedicated crew cabins.
