Fresh off their Aegean 600 victory, Omikron Yachts integrates real-world offshore racing expertise directly into developing the new Argo 54.
Fresh from this year’s Aegean 600 aboard Volvo Open 70 AIOLOS, winner of the Maxi class and the Aegean Athena Trophy, Omikron Yachts’ team is back at the shipyard with another 600 miles of offshore sailing behind them, an experience that continues to inform the development of Argo 54 and the philosophy behind the brand itself.
The Volvo Open 70 AIOLOS, originally designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian for the 2012 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race, was acquired by the owner of Argo 54 and rebuilt by Omikron to serve as a training platform for him and the yacht’s crew, with the owner also taking the helm as skipper during races. Sailing aboard a yacht conceived for some of the world’s most demanding racing conditions allows the team to further develop its high-performance sailing expertise and bring valuable insights back into the shipyard’s Argo 54 project. Restored to competitive racing form, AIOLOS and her crew recently went on to claim victory in two categories at this year’s Aegean 600.

As Argo 54 continues to take shape, those lessons remain central to the project. Developed from the expertise of the Omikron team, the 53.2-meter sloop represents the brand’s vision of a new generation of sailing yachts combining performance, comfort and responsible cruising without compromising the pleasure of being at sea. She is a high-performance aluminum cruiser, designed for owners who want to cover significant distances while enjoying an engaging sailing experience. Capable of reaching 30 knots under sail, it brings together speed and efficiency with a diesel-electric propulsion system featuring adaptable cruising modes, while offering long-range capabilities and a reduced environmental footprint.
The project is being led in-house by Omikron Chairman Nikolas Dendrinos and Project Manager Vassilis Kouvaris, with naval architecture developed by Juan Kouyoumdjian Naval Architecture, while part of the exterior styling is by Italian designer Lorenzo Argento. This combination of technical expertise and real-world sailing experience reflects Omikron’s approach: creating yachts that are not only innovative on paper but designed around the realities of life offshore.
