Torqeedo Cruise Pod is overall winner of DAME Awards 2016

Bill Dixon, the jury chairman of the DAME Design Awards, presented the main prize of this most prestigious award from the marine industry to Torqeedo CEO Christoph Ballin.

The world market leader in the field of electric boating from Germany was awarded for the cruise pod engine system introduced this year. The jury praised the Torqeedo Cruise FP for “its beautiful engineering and close attention to detail design, its integrated approach, its compact dimensions and its market realistic price” – creating exciting new opportunities for the interior design of sailing yachts by removing the need for a traditional engine space.

Christoph Ballin, Co-Founder and CEO of Torqeedo, comments on the DAME Award win: “We are absolutely thrilled to be the overall winner of the DAME Award for the second time. We are delighted to see the coming of age for electric nobility in the marine industry. We are proud to be a driver in this business, and we are thankful to be recognized for our approach by the DAME Jury.” 1torwue2

Genuine alternative to inboard diesels
With the Cruise Pod drives from Torqeedo, electric motor systems are a real alternative to inboard diesels. The system provides minimal weight with maximum performance. The engine unit, proven in thousands of outboard motors, is just one of the components of the integrated propulsion system that offers superior performance and comfort.

It is complemented by Torqeedo's own lithium batteries, which match perfectly to the motors, and new electronic throttle levers, which have been specifically designed for sailing boats. Added to this is the new, modern user interface. The system can be charged by shore power, solar power and with a generator. During sailing, it generates energy through hydrogenation.

Second overall victory for Torqeedo in four years
The DAME Design Awards are given in seven categories. One of the prize-winners is also awarded as “overall winner”. With this the jury praises “outstanding examples of groundbreaking research and development” in the marine industry – as applying to the newly introduced Cruise Pod propulsion system.

For Torqeedo it is the second overall victory at the most prestigious competition of the naval industry in four years. In 2012 Torqeedo received the DAME Award for the electric outboard motor Deep Blue, which marked the entry of the German high-tech company into the area of high-voltage electric marine motors.

At the METS Amsterdam, the world’s largest trade fair for marine equipment, Torqeedo presents itself at booth no. 01.741.
