The first steel plates have been assembled under the shipyard management and Sergio Cutolo’s surveillance. Sergio Cutolo of HydroTec is in charge of the project for what concerns the development of the architecture and the exterior design.

Intended for an European shipowner, the new M40 Explorer carries a wide range of interesting stylistic and functional elements representing an evolution in the Explorer concept. Smooth and intriguing lines satisfy the most demanding eyes without compromising the key features of this kind of pleasure vessels. This unit still maintains the main characteristics an exploration vessel must grant: a high bow, vertical bridge windows, generous living spaces on deck and generous storerooms to haul suitable auxiliary means to explore remote places. On top of these features M40’s structural strength ensures maximum safety even in very demanding conditions and its engines are appropriately sized to fit long range cruising.

The construction of the M40 Explorer coincides with important milestones for both the companies involved: Mondomarine is celebrating 100 years of unstopped activity in Savona whereas Hydro Tec has just successfully achieved 20 years in this business. A perfect occasion, for both the firms, to jointly show their skills in delivering excellence in ship and yacht building. Mondomarine and HYDROTEC, together, represent a beautiful synergy of individual skills and historical significance that is fully expressed in this complex project.

THE YACHT

Mondomarine M40 Explorer as a proper exploration unit meets structural requirements such as: strength, high stability and seaworthiness, even in heavy sea conditions. The yacht ismade of a steel displacement hull, developed to ensure the highest hydrodynamic efficiency, and of an aluminium alloy superstructure, characterized by vertical windows and generous outdoor living spaces. The interior layout reveals this yacht dual personality. The tough globe explorer on one hand and the comfortable pleasure yacht on the other.

We find two sites to haul suitable auxiliary means (one located at bow and the other one at stern) and a large garage between the engine room and the beach area; a bridge built across the entire width of the superstructure granting a visibility of 180° and beyond; wide bridge wings and the main bridge structure developed on the principle of wide body. On top of these features, on the bow deck, there is a rigging area protected by bulwark and engineered to guarantee fast and safe operations in any condition. At stern we have an outdoor lounge area with a sofa and a table from which you can admire the beautiful scenery from a higher perspective.

The bridge, built across the entire width of the superstructure, has allowed designers to realize a true beachfront apartment. Interiors are made up of four guest cabins, on the lower deck, and of themaster suite on the main deck. The shipowner's suite is characterized by large windows, designed to contribute to the overall cabin modern styling. It’s worth mentioning that, the windows are another element that expresses the dual personality of this project: starting from the classic portholes there’s a switch to the slender windows of the hull forward area (designed to brighten the interior and provide a panoramic view from the shipowner’s suite) to get to the large vertical windows on the main and upper deck . The crew quarters are comfortable and properly sized to fit long term cruising.

The captain’s quarter is located just astern of the bridge, and is comprehensive of his cabin and a proper office. The bridge is fitted with a built-in large couch, to allow the owner and his guests to follow the navigation.

 UNCOVERED BRIDGES

The Mondomarine M40 Explorer has generous external spaces where to enjoy sun and shadow and to intimately live the amazing remote spots a true exploration vessel can reach. Huge external areas are the large cockpit, on the main deck, the upper deck dining area and lounge and the sky deck. This last bridge entirely open-air is partially protected by a hard top. When the sea is not worth a swim the guests can enjoy the large squared Jacuzzi at stern surrounded by sofas and beach chairs.
