S/Y Eve II is the revolutionary 70 ft sailboat developed by Windiva, team established during 21st edition of the Master in Yacht Design at Politecnico di Milano.
S/Y Eve II is the revolutionary 70 ft custom performance cruiser ready to challenge tradition with her progressive style. The concept was developed by the team Windiva – composed of Dilara Kalkavan, Turkish Engineer, Aurora Fernè Designer from Italy, Mario El Hajj, Architect form Lebanon and Mattia Boccolini, Designer from Italy – and established during the 21st edition of the Master in Yacht Design at Politecnico di Milano.
Throughout the project the team had one main goal in mind: to be innovative in both form and function. This is confirmed particularly by the dynamic deck plan that features a seating area in the centre next to the large glass surface that overlooks the dinette.
The deck plan comes with 4 winches, two on each side, and a captive fixed point main sheet. The sporty setting of the deck together with the large sail area allows to achieve performance yet to sail in complete safety – both essential characteristics as the client the project is intended to is a global technology company that aims to use the boat for team building activities as well as racing for positive advertising and marketing purposes. The telescopic keel reaches a maximum draft of 4.2 meters, guaranteeing all the advantages of lifting keels without interfering with the space below deck.
The interiors, highly inspired by car design, are ground breaking to say the least. Technology is turned into style thanks to the navigation desk placed in the centre of the saloon, creating a futuristic look that reminds of those of spaceships, becoming the distinctive feature of the interior space. Light also plays a key role. Thanks to the large glass entrances, the hidden windows all around the deckhouse and the master cabin large windows, an extraordinary amount of natural light pervades the whole space. In addition, the choice of artificial lighting was a crucial part of the design. LED strings are hidden inside the furniture creating an exciting effect that highlights the innovative layout.
The interior space presents some exciting and unconventional materials. The light-coloured composite surfaces are of flax fibers. The padding of the soft furnishing is made of kapok fibers, silky cotton-like substance that surrounds the seeds of the ceiba tree, known to be ethically and sustainably sourced as well as non-toxic, long lasting and naturally biodegradable. The textiles are a of a mixture of natural fibers such as stinging nettle, that contributes to conserving biodiversity and is easy to grow and hemp fibers, which requires very little water and improves soil health. As well as contributing to the environment preservation, these fibers create an elegant product, extremely high in quality and exceptionally long lasting. Topping off these unusual materials’ palette is madder, a natural dye extracted from madder plant Rubia Tinctorum, protagonist of the distinctive red interiors details.
The hull and the hull structure are made of basalt fibers and balsa wood, and thanks to the use of Elium®, a thermoplastic resin from Arkema, the composite becomes recyclable. The teak on the deck is replaced by cork, one of the few truly sustainable alternatives.
In addition, the hybrid propulsion, composed of two Torqeedo Deep Blue 50 Saildrive, is unique for a boat of this kind. The double engines together with the twin rudder system makes the manoeuvrability exceptional.
Eve II accommodates up to six guests. Forward is the full beam master cabin and the two ensuite guest cabins at the stern are very spacious and accommodates 2 guests each. The crew cabin is accessed through the bow hatch before the anchor locker.
