Rolex Yacht-Master II: The evolution of a nautical icon

Rolex unveils the new-generation Yacht-Master II, a redesigned regatta chronograph featuring the innovative calibre 4162, enhanced legibility, and a revolutionary counterclockwise mechanical countdown for elite sailors demanding absolute nautical precision.

The world of competitive sailing is a realm defined by relentless elements and the pursuit of absolute synchronicity, where Rolex has unveiled the new-generation Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master II to meet the sport’s most extreme demands. This regatta chronograph has been entirely redesigned, presenting a sleek, simplified, and modernized profile that marks a grand comeback for one of the most mechanically complex timepieces in the Rolex portfolio. Available in Oystersteel or 18 ct yellow gold, this unique tool watch marries technical virtuosity with a refined aesthetic, ensuring it remains the ultimate companion for sailors who demand intuitive functionality under pressure.

Refined aesthetics – Superior legibility

The aesthetic evolution of the Yacht-Master II is immediately apparent in its refined 44 mm Oyster case. The middle case, featuring redesigned domed sides, has been entirely restyled to present a more elegant and streamlined profile. This design is complemented by a slightly broader bracelet, which creates a more harmonious balance of proportions between the case and the wrist. For the version in 18 ct yellow gold, the bracelet includes patented ceramic inserts inside the links to prevent premature wear and enhance flexibility, ensuring the watch remains comfortable even during the extreme physical rigors of a race. The display of the watch’s functions has been fundamentally rethought to enhance legibility in the spray of the ocean. The dial is now coated with a new matt white lacquer, specifically chosen to reduce reflections and glare when the sun is at its zenith. The applique index hour markers provide a clear contrast against this backdrop. A significant change is found on the flange, which now hosts the countdown scale graduated from 10 to 0 minutes, with half-minutes represented by triangles.

Technical innovation

At the heart of this new generation is the calibre 4162, an evolution of the calibre 4161. This movement is a distillation of Rolex’s most advanced technology, incorporating the patented Chronergy escapement. Made of nickel-phosphorous, this escapement combines high energy efficiency with great dependability and resistance to strong magnetic fields. The movement also features a blue Parachrom hairspring, offering ten times more precision than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks, and is mounted on high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers.
