The Magellano 27M opens the third chapter of an evolutionary story sparked in the early 2000s by the foresight of Paolo and Giovanna Vitelli. They were the first to pioneer an entirely new category — the crossover of the seas — sparking a revolution in both experience and design that equals the impact of the SUV on the automotive world. As a true crossover, the Magellano grants the freedom to forego compromise and simply embrace it all: a design that combines generous volumes for long voyages with elegant, timeless lines, and an experience elevated by a Dual Mode hull guaranteeing superior comfort across a wide range of sea conditions and speeds. Defined by its vertical bow and double chine, this high-efficiency hybrid hull combines the strengths of displacement and planing designs, reducing fuel consumption while softening wave impact. It is an innovation designed not to chase speed, nor to settle for slowness, but to navigate at one’s own pace, with the absolute freedom to set sail even when the sea keeps others ashore.

Inaugurated today with the Magellano 27M, the Series’ third generation brings this journey to fulfillment, where the long-range strength of the crossover flows into an intimate, soulful interior space. The choice of an unprecedented creative dialogue, uniting Finnish designer Jarkko Jämsén with AMDL CIRCLE, Michele De Lucchi, and Davide Angeli, is itself a tribute to the yacht’s independent and versatile nature. Jämsén’s multifaceted talent, spanning iconic superyachts, advanced sail design, and industrial craft, instills the exterior with a bold sculptural force. Inside, that pure architecture adopts an Italian accent, guided by De Lucchi’s signature decision to entrust the entire narrative to the warmth of wood. Its heart is the loggia, a Mediterranean sanctuary blurring inside and out, where onboard life slows during long passages and quiet anchorages. A vessel for discerning seafarers, aesthetes whose instinct is to seek the rare over the ordinary, pursuing absolute freedom. Their effortless individuality finds its natural counterpart in the Magellano 27M: a superyacht whose character reflects their own, unique, confident, and deeply imbued with beauty.

THE BARE SHAPE: WHEN NATURE DESIGNS

Exterior designer Jarkko Jämsén built the concept around a radical idea: the Magellano 27M is like a living site-specific artwork, conceived not to dominate nature but to exist through it, her beauty revealed in dialogue with the elements. By stripping away the unnecessary and revealing the bare shape, the Magellano 27M transforms into a mirror where sea, sky, and light endlessly compose her surfaces. Jämsén’s architecture dances between engineering and fluidity, just as the industrial line – the loop – traces its dance along the yacht’s profile, expressing a dual nature. On one side, precise engineering: the straight line of the corner, the industrial feel of the fillets, the calibrated dimensions that speak of technical mastery and high precision. On the other, fluidity and reflection: the surfaces surrounding the loop are deliberately pure and cleaned of excess, allowing curvatures to capture light and multiply the play of sea and sky.  The wooden louvers at the stern – a signature aesthetic element of the entire Magellano Series – bring in the warmth of wood and break the sunlight into shafts of light and shade. This tension between engineered clarity and sculptural softness creates a unique identity: a yacht that is instantly recognizable, rigorously built, yet alive with natural beauty.

THE LOGGIA ON THE SEA: A VOYAGE WITHIN

Two kindred minds shared a single instinct long before meeting at sea. It was a decade ago when AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi created Azimut’s “onshore” architectural identity concept: “A warm and natural seaside feeling,” and wooden brise-soleil became a subtle echo across the brand’s venues and global showcases. Today, wood and sunlight keep dancing in the Magellano 27M’s unprecedented loggia over the sea, quietly nodding at the yacht’s aft heritage louvers. As if, all along, it were meant to be. Designed by AMDL CIRCLE & Michele De Lucchi, the interiors of the Magellano 27M are rooted in a human truth: since the dawn of humankind, we have moved across lands and seas to discover, to connect, and to shape our future. The Magellano 27M honours this impulse, making the journey itself a place of meaning, identity, and self-discovery. 

At the heart of the project lies the Main Deck, conceived as a vast loggia over the sea: a space deeply glazed, immersed in light, and articulated by wooden architectural elements that evoke Mediterranean pergolas and patios. The result is an environment suspended between inside and out, a place where the landscape becomes part of daily life, and where design does not divide but filters, accompanies, and protects in continuity with nature. Spaces are not perceived as a sequence of rooms but as one fluid environment where the eye moves uninterruptedly and the sea remains constantly present. It is the very essence of Azimut’s Integral Design ethos: entrusting designers with every detail, shaping the entire interior into one cohesive organism.

OF WOOD AND LIGHT

Wood is the very breath of the Magellano 27M’s living organism. In a gesture of pure intent, AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi embrace a mono-material narrative, elevating it to the sole protagonist through a rich variety of textures: striped, engraved, flamed, and sculpted to evoke visual depth and touch. In the Main Deck saloon and Owner’s Suite, light oak gently meets walnut details, where a refined three-dimensional motif honours the transition between the two woods. De Lucchi’s bond with ancient Japanese craftsmanship weaves a quiet fusion into the space. Tactile 3D wood surfaces lie alongside side tables hand-chiseled with the traditional Naguri technique. Above the headboard, the wall does not display artwork: it becomes the art itself, wrapped in precious HOSOO fabric, hand-woven on 300-year-old Kyoto looms. Its delicate pattern represents a microscopic enlargement of a cross-section of a tree trunk, quietly returning to the essence of wood.

Metal and wooden details complete the project with a sophisticated accent, where nature’s essence meets contemporary precision in a composition of elegance, depth, and soul that resonates with Jämsén’s vision, where solidity melts into movement and rigor flows into grace. Natural light is treated as a material in its own right. It enters with intensity, as it does on the open sea, yet is softened and warmed by the extensive use of light wood that lines walls, ceilings, and furnishings. The outcome is a luminous and intimate setting, enveloping, where light vibrates and guides the gaze. Complemented by statement lighting pieces created by Produzione Privata – the design studio founded by Michele De Lucchi in 1990 to champion experimentation and artisanal excellence – creations such as the Jona and Metafisica lamps join iconic Artemide designs to make light itself an architectural element rather than mere decoration.

AN ADVANCED DUAL MODE HULL

Just as the onboard environment shapes the experience of life at sea, engineering defines the ability to extend it. Beneath the sculptural purity of her design lies a technological foundation conceived to carry owners further, more comfortably and with complete confidence. The same evolution found in the design extends below the waterline. The Magellano concept was always rooted in the idea of long-range cruising in perfect safety and comfort, and the Magellano 27M embraces this philosophy in every aspect of its naval architecture and systems engineering. This starts with an exceptional hull design, engineered to soften wave impact, navigating them rather than surfing them. Such smooth and comfortable behaviour in a seaway was a Magellano trademark from the very first model, launched in 2009, and the Magellano 27M builds on that foundation with exceptional and refined naval architecture.

The result is the Dual Mode hull, developed by the Azimut|Benetti Group R&D Department in collaboration with P.L. Ausonio Naval Architecture. It features a double-chine hull with a vertical bow, which increases the waterline length and facilitates a smoother entry into the waves, as well as a central skeg that enhances directional stability in all sea conditions. In particular, the double chine design helps reduce spray in heavy seas, acting as a natural shock absorber by distributing the impact across two steps. This allows the speed to be adjusted according to the actual sea conditions, reducing stress on the hull and delivering greater freedom of navigation. The hull’s shape also optimizes fuel consumption both at more displacement speeds and at higher cruising speeds. This translates into remarkable versatility: fitted with twin MAN V12 1,650 hp engines, the Magellano 27M shows her true free spirit, offering the ability to cruise comfortably and efficiently at the speeds most commonly used when cruising, between 16 and 18 knots, while retaining the capability to exceed 24 knots when needed, alongside a range of about 1,000 nautical miles at 12 knots for longer passages and extended off-grid voyaging.

THE RISE OF SILENT TECHNOLOGY

Approximately 30% of the yacht’s surfaces are built using carbon fibre, reducing overall weight and enhancing efficiency, fuel consumption, and dynamic performance. Azimut Silent Technology is the innovation programme developed by Azimut to deliver an increasingly quieter and more sustainable onboard experience. Leading this programme is the in-house Applied Technology Laboratory, a team of researchers and designers dedicated to turning research insights into concrete, scalable solutions across the different segments of the Azimut fleet. Through this development work, Azimut addresses noise, vibration, and emissions with dedicated technical solutions, including elastic engine and generator mountings, dedicated silencers, and particulate filters. The result is a calmer, more refined onboard environment particularly appreciated during extended stays at sea.

An optional Zero Emission Hotel Mode, powered by LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) batteries, allows guests to spend part of the day, or even an entire night at anchor, in complete comfort and silence without the need to run the generators, eliminating noise, vibration, and emissions during stationary use. Complex technologies serve a simple purpose: making life aboard even more enjoyable. Back in 2009, during the original Magellano Voyage, a winter crossing of more than 2,000 nautical miles across the Mediterranean, celebrated yachtsman and journalist Dag Pike famously observed that the yacht “sits solidly into the sea”, conveying a constant sense of confidence and control. That observation remains one of the clearest expressions of the Magellano spirit today: the Magellano 27M sits solidly in the water for long passages, and even more solidly against the passage of time and trends, pursuing the one truth that will never fade: the desire to cruise free across the open sea.
