With the DS48, Moody presents its new medium-sized blue water yacht for special demands.
Like her larger and smaller sisters, the award-winning DS41 and the DS54, the Moody DS48 is characterised by her spacious saloon with a perfect 360-degree view to the outside. Equally unique is the comfortable and safe Moody walkaround deck with a high bulwark and fixed railing. The well thought-out concept now also ensures the typical Moody "monomaran" experience in the 48-foot class – like a catamaran on a single hull.
Without a disturbing step between the generously protected cockpit and the deck saloon, the Moody DS48 offers plenty of space and area on one level. Designed in collaboration with Bill Dixon and the team at Dixon Yacht Design, the Moody DS48 is another of the brand's models that epitomises the unique combination of volume and performance of the ground-breaking Moody DS range.
The hull offers a particularly voluminous interior. At the same time, the DS48 is a safe and extremely comfortable yacht that handles well in all conditions. Her wide range of options makes her a real owner's boat for blue water sailing with perfect sailing characteristics.
Whether at sea or in the harbour, she offers everything that makes life on board comfortable: plenty of space inside and out, a large galley with every conceivable option and an unusually large number of layout variations.
Highlights
Hull: Composite bulkheads laminated to the hull ensure maximum structural stability. A tunnel bow thruster with holding function is standard and can be supplemented with an optional retractable stern thruster for perfect manoeuvring in narrow spaces. The DS48's large dinghy garage holds an inflatable boat of up to 2.8 metres in length, while the optional Moody Smart Tender System makes launching and recovering the dinghy child's play.
Deck: The original Moody walkaround deck with its high bulwark and fixed railing ensures special safety, especially at sea. The foredeck offers a large sun pad. Optionally, there is a dinette available on the foredeck, with a table that can be stowed in the separate sail locker right behind the voluminous anchor locker. The entire surface of the floating roof, which rests on just six sturdy aluminium supports, can be covered with solar panels for maximum autonomy away from the harbour.
Rig: The high-performance rig with three pairs of spreaders and a sail area of up to 156 sqm guarantees excellent sailing characteristics. A furling mast with double forestay is available as an option.
Cockpit: Under the openable soft top, two cockpit tables, generous seating areas and further seating options in the rear cockpit area provide the ideal setting for shared experiences with family and friends. The optional wet bar at the stern with barbecue grill, fridge and sink perfectly contributes to the hospitality. The two large stowage lockers in the cockpit can be used to store everything needed for a long voyage. The high helmsman's position provides a perfect overview at all times. The bathing platform is accessed via a comfortable staircase, and from there you can easily get into the water via the optional bathing stairs.
Deck saloon: With its seamlessly laminated safety glass windows, the saloon offers a 360- degree panoramic view, whether from the large seating area with the table, from the optional steering position or from the spacious L-shaped galley with its three-burner gas cooktop and large worktop. A dishwasher, up to 380 litre refrigerator capacity and a microwave oven are available on request.
Interior: Thanks to the deck saloon overlapping with the aft cabin, the Moody DS48 offers around 25 per cent more interior space – as much as on a 58-foot yacht. Including the large and luxurious master cabin with a large island bed and en-suite bathroom, a total of three cabins and up to three bathrooms with separate showers are possible on just 48 feet. The third cabin can also be configured as a multifunctional space, for example to accommodate a washing machine with integrated tumble dryer. Plenty of natural light in the saloon and cabins and a well thought-out ventilation concept on both decks ensure a pleasant atmosphere throughout the boat.
