YYachts Launches Sixth Y7

YYachts is “buzzing” this spring. After handing over the Y8 “Vegas Baby” to her owner, the shipyard founded by sailing legend Michael Schmidt launched the next yacht just four weeks later.

The Y7 “Galatea” has now been craned into the Baltic Sea near Greifswald and is currently undergoing her extensive test runs to familiarise owner and crew with all components and procedures. With a length of just under 22 metres, the Y7 is the smallest yacht in the YYachts portfolio, but it has the great advantage that it can be sailed by a couple or even alone. Thanks to its carbon construction, a Y7 has a displacement of just under 30 tonnes and thus already sets sail when other yachts are still under engine power. The tender garage developed by YYachts, which is located transversely in the stern, also generates more interior volume than is usual for yachts of a similar size.

The construction and the sporty, modern exterior styling are the work of Bill Tripp. The US American described his work as follows: “The overarching principle of the boat is ‘keep it simple’. Equipped with a self-tacking jib, two engines, a bow thruster and joystick steering, this boat is easy to manoeuvre both when mooring and sailing. Moreover, I have no interest in designing boats that are clumsy or slow. The latest hull designs combine more usable volume with speed. Built from carbon fibre, this yacht is also a lot of fun in light winds.”

Inside, a classy, cosy atmosphere prevails on this sixth Y7. YYachts used plenty of Alcantara and special woods; the entire interior was done in-house, as usual. Dirk Zademack, Managing Partner of YYachts, commented: “It was a lot of fun to build this stylish yacht. `Galatea’ fulfils our philosophy of light, fast, luxurious and easy to handle vessels; she will turn heads in any Mediterranean marina.”

YYachts will be delievering another Y7 by the summer and a 90ft custom yacht with a design by Bill Tripp and an interior design by Winch Design.
