The new YYachts Y6, a 60-foot sailing yacht with minimal aesthetics and high performance, premieres this autumn, offering a top-tier sailing experience. The vessel was designed to offer the ultimate balance between high performance, ease of use, and minimal aesthetics. Signed by Tripp Design Naval Architecture for naval architecture and David Thulstrup for interior design, the Y6 caters to owners seeking elegance without compromising on speed, boasting the ability to sail even without a professional crew.
Construction progress
The Y6 is currently under construction, with work progressing intensively to prepare for its official premiere this coming Autumn. The first photos of the hull have already been revealed, showcasing the clean lines and top-tier construction quality that define YYachts vessels.
Technical specifications & design
The Y6 is constructed with a focus on the maximum strength-to-weight ratio. The hull and deck are made of carbon sandwich with a CORECELL™ M-foam core, ensuring low weight and high rigidity, which dramatically improves performance, especially in light winds. The overall length of the vessel (LOA) is approximately 19.65 meters, while the waterline length (LWL) is 18.50 meters. The light ship displacement is approximately 25.9 tons. The fixed keel draft reaches 3.50 meters, while an option for a 2.75-meter shallow draft keel is also available, ensuring access to more anchorages. The ballast of the fixed keel is approximately 8.60 tons.
Sailing equipment
The yacht is equipped with a carbon mast and boom from AXXON, constructed with prepreg materials and cured in an autoclave for maximum rigidity and strength. The modern fractional rig includes rod rigging and allows for easy sail handling. The mainsail area is 160m2, while the self-tacking jib covers 100m2, significantly facilitating maneuvers. For impressive downwind performance, a gennaker with an area of 410m2 is available, as well as a racing jib 115m2 or genoa depending on the owner’s preferences.
Interiors and layout
The interior of the Y6 follows a minimal approach with an emphasis on natural light and material quality. The standard “Milano” layout uses light oak, creating a warm yet modern atmosphere. The owner’s cabin is located in the bow and features a free-standing queen-size island bed, ample storage space, and a private bathroom with a separate shower area. The yacht includes two additional guest cabins aft, each with twin beds and its own bathroom. In the salon, the open space combines a U-shaped dining sofa on the starboard side and an L-shaped relaxation sofa on the port side. The galley is fully equipped with Corian countertops, a gimballed gas stove, an oven, and a stainless-steel refrigerator/freezer with drawers.
Systems and autonomy
The Y6 is equipped with modern systems for autonomous and safe cruising. Propulsion is provided by a Yanmar 4JH110 engine with 110 HP, connected to a Saildrive SD15 and a 3-blade folding propeller. The 24 V DC electrical system is managed by CZone digital switching and includes a VICTRON ENERGY Inverter/Charger 24 V/8000 VA/200 A. For accommodation, the yacht features fresh water tanks with a capacity of approximately 800 liters, while the fuel tank also offers a capacity of approximately 800 liters.
Deck and steering
The deck is designed for easy handling, even with a small crew, thanks to the self-tacking jib system. The steering system is a double rudder system, offering excellent control and responsiveness. The large aft storage space (lazarette) features an electric hatch and serves as a garage for the dinghy. The swimming platform is integrated into the stern and opens electrically, while the transom remains closed for greater safety while sailing.
