Truly Classic Acadia nears completion at Claasen Shipyards

Construction is proceeding apace at Claasen Shipyards in the Netherlands on the third Truly Classic 90. Designed by Hoek Design Naval Architects, Acadia is set to surpass even her much admired predecessors.

This state-of-the-art 90-foot yacht will be finished to the highest standard. The owner’s representative on the project is Peter Wilson of MCM – the fourth collaboration between Claasen and MCOM, the most recent being the TC127 Atalante.

The hull and insulation were completed first, and the carpentry work has now started. All the technical and electronic installations are in the capable hands of Cornelis Jongkind Yacht Installation, which recently began the prep work by fitting the piping and cabling.

Work has also begun on Acadia‘s interior and will proceed from the forward and aft extremities of the boat towards the middle, starting with the forward crew cabins. All the woodwork is being put into the interior directly and installed there. The owner’s suite and guest cabins are more than half complete, with all furniture in place. The master suite will have direct access to the amidships section of the yacht, which is home to the saloon and its wonderful all-round views.

The generators, air conditioning system, watermaker and all the hydraulics have already been installed in the engine room, with just the main engine to follow. All deck hatches are also installed, the cap rail is currently being mounted and the exterior finished with beautifully varnished teak details. The giant 35.60-metre keel-stepped mast and 11.40-metre boom are being made in carbon by Hall Spars in the Netherlands. The sail package will be supplied by Doyle and includes a mainsail, yankee and staysail, all of which will be operable from the cockpit. There is also a brilliant red and white top-down furling A3/asymmetrical.

The hull will be in a pristine white colour with a distinctive red underbody. “Acadia will greatly benefit from and integrate many of the ongoing improvements we have been implementing on recent Truly Classics such as the TC127 Atalante,” says Wouter van Rijn, project manager at Claasen. “She will represent another milestone in Claasen’s production and a further reminder of our yard’s premium standard capacities.”

Acadia will be completed in the early summer, with the launch slated for May 2016. In addition to this new Truly Classic 90, Claasen is currently also busy with a 77 ft Pilot Classic.
