The Rug Company X Mary Katrantzou The Rug Company has collaborated with fashion designer Mary Katrantzou for a second time, following the success of Fantastical Florals, which launched in 2019. Entitled A Life in Pattern, this collection showcases two new designs in two colourways, illustrating Katrantzou’s visionary nature and dedication to print.
London based, Greek-born, Katrantzou has been making waves in the fashion world since establishing her eponymous brand in 2008. Penchant for kaleidoscopic patterns, the designer is often heralded ‘Mary, Queen of Prints’, following a successful solo exhibition in 2018. Recognized for her examination of culture, history and art, Katrantzou has garnered attention from both the fashion world and cultural institutions too. Her work has been featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY, the Victorian Albert Museum and The Copper Hewitt Smithsonian Museum, to name a few.
From artistic movements to natural elements, A Life in Pattern draws upon powerful motifs to create mesmerizing art for the floor. A reflection of Katrantzou’s innovative nature, each rug is an unmistakable adaption of a design from the fashion house’s collections. Fantastical Florals presents seven uniquely vibrant rugs, representing Katrantzou’s first foray into the world of interiors. Like A Life in Pattern, each rug is an unmistakably Katrantzou, inspired by the bold and imaginative designs for which her eponymous brand is renowned.
Both collections have been finely hand-woven by The Rug Company’s expert craftspeople to capture even the most unique detail, giving the designs a hyper-real and photographic quality. Intended for both residential and commercial spaces, each design is fully customisable and available in a vast range of qualities, colours, materials and shapes.
The pieces can also be created as wall-to-wall installations and stair runners, depending on the client’s requirements. “By drawing inspiration from our archival prints, our intention is to create beautiful rugs that resemble works of Art and permeate a sense of timelessness in one’s space” Mary Katrantzou.
