SX88: Celebrates japanese premiere at Japan International Boat Show

Sanlorenzo’s revolutionary SX88 will make its highly anticipated Japanese debut at the Japan International Boat Show 2026 in Yokohama.

The Sanlorenzo SX88 stands as one of the most significant milestones in modern naval architecture, having inaugurated the Crossover (SX) series—a category that decisively bridged the gap between classic flybridge yachts and rugged explorer vessels. Measuring 26.7 meters in length, the SX88 is not merely a pleasure craft; it is a “floating loft” that redefines the relationship between man and the sea. Its design philosophy emphasizes a sophisticated yet adventurous lifestyle, catering to a new generation of owners who value open spaces and a direct connection to the marine environment.

As a testament to its global appeal and the brand’s strategic expansion into the Far East, the Sanlorenzo SX88 is set to capture the Asian market by making its official Japanese premiere at the Japan International Boat Show (March 19–22, 2026) in Yokohama. This debut at Japan’s premier maritime event underscores Sanlorenzo’s commitment to innovation and its ability to resonate with a global audience seeking the perfect balance of Italian style and high-seas functionality.

Design and exterior aesthetics

The exterior design, envisioned by Officina Italiana Design (Mauro Micheli), is characterized by an imposing and muscular silhouette that exudes confidence. The most recognizable design element is the forward displacement of the superstructure, a strategic choice that liberates a massive, continuous space on the aft deck. The high, seaworthy bow ensures excellent buoyancy in all weather conditions, while the yacht’s lines slope elegantly downward as they approach the stern, creating a sense of dynamism even when the vessel is at anchor. The hull is constructed from GRP (fiberglass), while the superstructure extensively utilizes carbon fiber. This use of advanced materials significantly reduces overall weight and lowers the center of gravity, ensuring superior stability and comfort during navigation, even in challenging sea states.

Interior revolution by Piero Lissoni

The interior of the SX88, designed by the world-renowned architect Piero Lissoni, represents the most radical aspect of the vessel. The primary innovation lies in the complete removal of the wheelhouse (steering position) from the main deck. The sole helm station has been moved exclusively to the flybridge, which can be fully enclosed with crystal glass panels and air-conditioned, creating a protected space with 360-degree panoramic visibility. This design revolution transforms the main deck into a continuous, open-plan “loft” that stretches from stern to bow without any internal partitions. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to flood the interior and offer an unobstructed view of the horizon. By dissolving the boundaries between the indoor and outdoor environments, the SX88 allows guests to feel constantly in touch with the surrounding seascape.

The iconic beach club

The stern of the SX88 is the ultimate socialization area. Five steps down from the main deck lies a massive 30-square-meter platform. Once the tenders (up to 4.5m) and water toys are launched using a crane cleverly hidden within the side railing, the area transforms into a luxurious beach club right on the water’s edge. An integrated hydraulic “Transformer” platform facilitates easy access to the sea for swimming or serves as a sophisticated gangway for boarding.

Technical excellence and sustainability

In terms of performance, the SX88 is equipped with a triple Volvo Penta IPS 1050 (3 x 800 hp) propulsion system. This configuration ensures a top speed of 23 knots while offering exceptional maneuverability via joystick and a drastic reduction in noise and vibration. At an economical speed of 10 knots, its range reaches approximately 1,200 nautical miles, allowing for extended coastal or offshore voyages with peace of mind. Sanlorenzo has also placed a heavy emphasis on sustainability, earning the Green Plus certification from RINA. Thanks to high-power lithium batteries, low-consumption systems, and advanced thermal insulation, the yacht can run all its systems (including air conditioning and appliances) for several hours with zero emissions. This allows guests to enjoy the tranquility of a secluded bay without the intrusion of generator noise.

The Sanlorenzo SX88 is a yacht for a modern era, blending Italian finesse with technological superiority. As it prepares for its official Japanese debut in Yokohama this March, it continues to set new standards for luxury yachting. It is not just a boat; it is a statement of freedom and contemporary design that remains one of the most influential models on the global stage.
