What stands behind boats, businesses, balance sheets and decisions is people. What stands behind those people is families who support them every single day. So, what happens when all of them are under one and the same roof?
The answer to this question and to more personal questions is provided by the people under that roof. They talk about their colleagues who are no other than their parents or children. This Spring issue is dedicated to family matters, leading companies of the Greek yachting industry founded on blood ties. In their case, the past, the present and the future come under the same roof and around the same table. Family Matters is the sweetest, most heartwarming topic I have got engaged in over the last years. Yes, I have been overwhelmed in the past in the face of rare yachts or special occasions, getting a close look at gems of boatbuilding or meeting imminent figures of yachting, but the matter at hand here touches the quintessence of creation, takes metaphysical proportions and flirts with the actual meaning of life and emotions.
I admit I read dozens of times the “confessions” –confessions on a public forum, that is what they are all about- and I will always remember the truth in them. Family Μatters is all about truths; priceless confessions of exceptional people, parents and children I personally appreciate and admire. A simple interview revolving around the idea of two generations working together and the parent-child relationship evolved into a deeper inner procedure, resulting in a genuine confession of the parents concerning their most precious thing in life – their children, and of the children concerning their parents – their guides in life. I believe that Family Matters is a legacy for the future, an imprint of meaningful words and images full of tension and emotion.
Moreover, I have to admit we feel honoured that all of the families readily agreed to help materialise this idea and they trusted ONDECK as a means to make a public statement. Allow me to publicly thank them.
Spring Time
At the same time, the new issue of ONDECK reflects current events and prefaces Spring, the most beautiful season of the year. We travel to the greatest indoor Boat Show in Europe, boot Dusseldorf and we bring you the atmosphere and the latest trends. This year we head farther up north to Finland and to the oldest Boat Show of Europe. The country of 1000 lakes is the land of Swan 60S, the new boat by the quality yard, Nautor. In the world of Motor yachts admire the classic Taransay by Rossinavi, a modern 39m vessel built to the last detail according to shipbuilding plans of the year 1930 and equipped with high-tech technology and absolute respect to traditional shipbuilding.
Just like in every issue, the Sky Lounge, our lifestyle section, takes you on a tour round the most exclusive and premium. Men’s grooming, short escapes to the lakes of Europe, the pleasure of driving the new Volvo S90, dinner at the new Moorings and a lot more are here waiting to be discovered.
