Signature style: On board M/Y Loewe, Tankoa Yachts’ stunning new T55 Sportiva

The Tankoa T55 Sportiva Loewe merges aerodynamic automotive design with high-end AV technology, offering a seamless, 55-metre luxury cruising experience.

It’s clear from the moment you step off the quay and onto the expansive aft deck of the T55 Sportiva Loewe, from Tankoa Yachts’ new semi-custom line, that she offers something special. Lithe in look and purposeful in posture, Loewe promises effortless cruising in a 55-metre, sub-500 GT package. Generous deck spaces and sublime interiors merge seamlessly thanks to subtle but supremely effective design features such as extensive floor-to-ceiling windows and an easy-going approach to layout that delivers luxe living while retaining the feeling of being on a yacht. Conceived with Tankoa by Luca Dini Design & Architecture, the T55 Sportiva blends elements of sleek, aerodynamic automotive design with the sublime essence waterborne living. Loewe takes this concept and makes it concrete, with a layout that has been optimized for charter but with exterior features and interior design driven by the expertise of the European owner. The yacht offers a further augmented guest experience with the incorporation of technology and AV systems from the yacht’s namesake AV tech company Loewe, an integration that weaves the top-flight entertainment system into the fabric of the design rather than merely layering it on top.

“The idea for the T55 Sportiva was born early in 2022, with the notion to create a new yacht line for Tankoa Yachts – they asked us to develop something different to what they had offered up till then, and we immediately started thinking about a new sporty, dynamic line,” begins Luca Dini, President and CEO of Luca Dini Design & Architecture who were tasked with creating the exterior design for the model, and even the interior design of Loewe. “She is very modern and very aggressive in her styling, but at the same time she maintains the philosophy of Tankoa – that she remains a yacht first and foremost, with the informal inside-outside approach to living where people can remain close to, and connected with, the sea.”

For her Owner, the blend of design and features of the T55 Sportiva was the perfect match for his needs. “I had been in touch with the Tankoa team for a while and had seen several projects,” he enthuses. “But it was only when I saw the T55 Sportiva on paper that I knew it was exactly the yacht I wanted. This is a model offering an onboard experience that blends elegance, innovation, and functionality – aspects which are absolutely in line with my lifestyle and the Loewe brand’s values.”

That social, sporty and simple lifestyle approach is clear from the vast aft deck area with its sea terrace surrounding a low-depth pool with a floor that rises create an extended deck area or – in the case of Loewe – a dance floor for partying the night away coupled to a fully equipped, aft-facing DJ station found at the aft end of the cockpit. Pantographic glass doors lead down into a beach club which, on Loewe, features a treatment table, sauna, hammam and gym equipment. A hidden bonus of this model are side ports to starboard that sit above and below the waterline, creating a Nemo room where guests can relax and watch the underwater world, enhanced at night by underwater lighting. To port, an openable shell door brings further fresh air and light to the beach club.

Two aft stairs connect the beach area to the main deck.  Just forward of the DJ console in the cockpit is a serious bar, serving both terrace and the comfortable aft deck with its inviting armchairs. This leads into the main saloon featuring a lounge with cozy sofas and a dining area with a table accommodating 12 guests, the relaxed feeling enhanced by large swaths of opening glass side doors that create a true inside-outside space, and a distinct, rippled metal film deckhead covering that captures the ambient light and reflected water colour, further reinforcing the feeling of being on a yacht.

The overall style and tone of the interior was expertly realised by the Luca Dini team, who have achieved a warm monochrome palette punctuated by coloured accents and enhanced by direct and indirect lighting. The result is an interior that captures the essence of the Owner’s taste and lifestyle while remaining appealing to a broad swathe of charter guests. There’s more to it, though – the interior has also been developed to incorporate the style of the Loewe brand.

“It was essential for the client that the yacht embody the core values of his company – Loewe, such as innovation, essentiality, and technology placed at the service of experience,” explained Tankoa’s team. “With this in mind, we conceived the yacht as a contemporary and harmonious environment where clean lines and high-quality materials dialogue with discreetly integrated technological solutions. The attention to detail, the functional distribution of spaces, and the thoughtful circulation reflect the very same philosophy that defines Loewe’s products: intuitive, refined, and never intrusive technology, perfectly blending with the onboard lifestyle.”

On board, all the technical elements from Loewe have been integrated with the yacht’s sporty, minimal interior, creating an environment conceived to be literally “filled” with sound, colour, and images. The underlying design becomes a canvas for this, with the foil deckhead motif bringing the sea inside and further echoing and reflecting tones and music. Even the use of materials similar to those Loewe employs to cover its extra luxury, high technological speakers helps reinforce the connection with the brand’s style and identity.

Forward of the main saloon’s dining area, to port lies the professional galley and access to the crew areas, while to starboard there’s a guest lobby with elevator connecting all decks in front of a circular guest stair that is partially open to the saloon. The foyer also includes a large cupboard for tableware, glasses and a generous wine cellar. There’s a day head here too, with the rippled deckhead motif moved 90 degrees to form an intriguing wall covering.

Forward again, the full-beam owner’s cabin offers a generous sleeping area with large window and couch to port, while to starboard a large glass sliding door leads out to a partially recessed owner’s terrace on the side deck that offers not just a private spot for relaxing but also a full spa pool. There’s access from here to the bow, aft to the cockpit, and also up to the upper deck, giving the owner plenty of opportunities to enjoy the exterior spaces directly from his suite. The owner’s ensuite bathroom lies forward to starboard, with a walk-in wardrobe and dressing room found to port.

Guests are equally spoiled for choice, with Loewe offering five ensuite guest cabins on the lower deck instead of four to ensure maximum flexibility for charter. The contemporary style is carried through the lower deck, with the monochrome palate accentuated by a silver-grey bamboo wall covering and with each cabin getting a different pop of muted pastel colour.

The upper saloon places a floorstanding Loewe Iconic Inspire television as a focal point, with comfortable sofas arranged in an outboard-facing L-formation – perfect not only for watching a movie, but also for admiring the panoramic view through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows and opening glass side doors. Here, the T55’s distinctive profile lines also present another intriguing detail, with the glass curving inward at the top rather than running flat on the vertical – a challenge for the shipyard to construct, but a stunning detail that enhances the yacht’s look from outside and inside liveability.

Aft there’s alfresco dining for 12 under the sundeck overhang, and a large aft terrace that features a generous sofa, bringing the essence of home-away-from-home living to the space. This can be protected from the sun thanks to canvas.

In front, the upper deck hosts the wheelhouse, and outside there’s a guest bench sofa offering a view forward and an inviting, private space to enjoy the breeze. The foredeck is given to the crew as a technical area housing not only the ground tackle but also a tender and two jet skis, launched by centreline crane.

Up top, the sundeck forms another social hub, with a bar forward that mirrors the one found on the main aft deck, and an expansive relaxation area under the hardtop with a distinctive double-sided sofa, plus loose aft sunloungers. Forward a large sunpad sits directly against the pool that forms a unique sit-in viewing platform. The pool, positioned at the very bow, frees up the rest of the deck, making it ideal for moments of conviviality and relaxation. Along with the other deck areas, these features also stand out for charter.

Underpinning the yacht is a solid technical platform and a twin-engine installation that delivers a comfortable cruise of 15 knots as well as an ocean-crossing range of 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots. Tankoa’s innovation and commitment to environmental consideration is evident throughout, highlighted in features such as the installation on board of the Ecolwave system. This is a downsized electrochlorination antifouling unit that operates in place of a copper anode system, removing harmful copper from the loop while augmenting protection against microfouling for the onboard seawater systems, with discharge reverting naturally into water and salt.

It speaks to Tankoa’s commitment to improving every element of the yachts it builds, even when those elements remain largely hidden from owners and guests on board – a philosophy perfectly encapsulated in the fine detailing and high-spec finish of every aspect of Loewe.
