Project Umai: Engineering the next generation of steel-hulled pocket superyachts

FDC Yachts’ Project Umai merges steel-hulled durability with a 2,500nm range, redefining technical excellence in the 26-meter pocket superyacht category.

Project Umai represents a significant milestone for FDC Yachts, showcasing a meticulous approach to custom shipbuilding where robust engineering meets refined Mediterranean aesthetics. Scheduled for delivery in May 2027, this 26-meter vessel is engineered with a high-grade steel hull and a lightweight aluminum superstructure. This specific material combination ensures exceptional structural integrity and stability for long-range cruising, providing the durability of an explorer yacht within a compact profile.

Spatial efficiency and volume

With a generous beam of 7.5 meters and a total displacement resulting in a gross tonnage of 170 GT, the yacht offers an internal volume and spatial efficiency typically reserved for much larger superyachts. The interior configuration is highly optimized to accommodate up to 12 guests across five well-appointed cabins, supported by a dedicated crew of five staying in three separate cabins to maintain the highest service standards throughout the voyage.

Performance and transoceanic range

Technical performance is at the core of the Umai project, which is designed to achieve a maximum speed of 14 knots and a steady cruising speed of 11 knots. Its impressive fuel capacity of 18,500 liters allows for a substantial range of 2,500 nautical miles when maintaining an economical speed of 9 knots, making it a capable vessel for extended Mediterranean or transoceanic crossings. Additionally, the yacht incorporates a fresh water capacity of 4,000 liters to support long periods at sea.

Acoustic comfort and innovation

A primary focus during the engineering phase has been the integration of advanced noise and vibration reduction technologies. Developed in collaboration with FORM Yacht Design, the vessel includes a specialized Silent Mode Option. This technical feature ensures an ultra-quiet environment for guests while at anchor, minimizing mechanical interference with the natural surroundings.

Currently under construction in Bodrum, Project Umai stands as a testament to FDC Yachts’ capability to deliver a “pocket superyacht” that does not compromise on technical power or endurance.
