Gloss Design’s Project Auralia blends Italian elegance with hybrid technology, offering a luxury 50-metre superyacht designed for remarkably fast construction.
The Italian studio Gloss Design has recently unveiled Project Auralia, a visionary 50-metre superyacht concept that aims to disrupt the traditional custom-build market. At its core, the project is built upon the principles of streamlined efficiency, optimized internal volumes, and a significantly reduced time to market. By leveraging a proven naval platform originally developed and tested for high-performance patrol vessels, Gloss Design proposes a construction schedule that could be up to 50% faster than a conventional bespoke build. This strategic approach allows owners to enjoy a refined, high-end product without the typical multi-year waiting period associated with such large-scale maritime projects.
Sculptural aesthetics and optimized space
The exterior of Project Auralia reflects a “restrained and sculptural” design language, drawing heavily from the studio’s extensive experience in both the yachting and automotive sectors. Renderings showcase sleek, clean surfaces and a sophisticated monochromatic grey palette that emphasizes the yacht’s modern silhouette. Despite staying under the significant 500GT threshold to simplify regulatory requirements, the three-deck layout is meticulously engineered to maximize living space. The main deck features a massive 9.2-metre full-beam saloon that houses a lounge, dining area, and bar, while the forward section is dedicated to a lavish owner’s suite complete with a private office, dressing room, and a personal spa area.
Luxury living and wellness on the waves
Guest accommodation is thoughtfully arranged on the lower deck, featuring four spacious en suite double cabins alongside high-quality crew quarters. This level also serves as the social heart of the vessel’s connection to the sea, hosting a beach club equipped with side-opening terraces that extend the living area directly over the water. For those seeking relaxation, a dedicated wellness zone includes both a sauna and a steam room. Meanwhile, the sundeck offers a more elevated experience for guests, featuring al fresco dining, a Jacuzzi, lounge seating, and an additional bar for entertaining under the sun or stars.
Hybrid innovation for sustainable cruising
Beyond its physical design, Project Auralia is a powerhouse of modern technology, featuring a sophisticated hybrid propulsion package. The system combines twin 2,000hp V12 diesel engines with four generators, two electric units, and a substantial 470kWh battery bank. This setup is specifically engineered to enhance the quality of life on board by managing “hotel loads” silently and allowing for zero-emission coastal cruising at a projected speed of 12 knots. This focus on hybrid technology not only ensures a quieter and more comfortable environment for guests by eliminating noise and vibration at anchor but also reflects a growing industry commitment to environmental autonomy and sustainable yachting.
