New Gladiator 631 by Canados

The Gladiator 631 project was initiated late 2019 with the idea to create the most reliable performance yacht ever with the lowest consumption to Nautical Mile ratio.

Canados is proud to introduce you with, literally, a piece of advanced engineering and technology that will fill a gap in the market no shipyard ever succeeded in doing. Imagine a 20-meter yacht that will burn only 5.5 liters per Nautical Mile at 35 knots while any other yacht in the category struggles to be at about 9 liters per NM. As simple as all the above criteria might sound, to reach this kind of results, the Canados technical department together with Cesati opted for some truly innovative new technologies.  In short, the weight to power ratio had to be kept under 10 kg per horsepower. As a result, the dry weight of the Gladiator 631 Next does not exceed 18.5 tons where all the others 20 meters on the market are between 24 and 26 tons on the scale. This significant gain of weight could not be achieved by reducing structures but had to be found in technology, materials and lightweight interior construction while the hydrodynamics had to be highly advanced.

The particular details of the hull design are:

– Triple stepped naturally ventilated hull;
– Transmission tail incorporating surface shafts and trim tabs with no hydraulics fittings in the water;
– Reversed strakes to accentuate transom lift and canalize much harder water to the propellers.
The hull and deck lamination calls for:
– Kevlar, Carbon, E-Glass all using vacuum bagging technology;
– Full vacuum bagged carbon fiber hard top;
– Full carbon fiber strake reinforcement;
– Full carbon fiber transom;
– Structural fuel, fresh water and wastewater tanks;
– Honeycomb structural bulkheads and furniture panels.

Reaching the targeted speed not being possible with conventional shaft lines, Canados opted for a different typology of surface drives. The JDM® Special are trimmable surface drives with aft positioned rudders. This allows to retain the reliability of conventional shaft lines without having any hydraulic fittings in the water as the trim pistons are installed inside the hull. The two major advantages are found in the consequent gain in performances and increased comfort by eliminating vibrations due to the fact the propellers are no more positioned under the hull. The steering rudders and bow thruster are coupled to a maneuvering joystick so the user can enjoy user friendly and easy maneuvering in ports.

The concept of the Gladiator 631 Next is the one of a truly hardcore open yacht.  Boarding will be made via an Opacmare® multi-function step gangway that will also be used as a swimming ladder. Underneath the aft sun pad is located the tender garage for a 2,85m jetboat. Underneath the hard top, the outdoor dining table is also convertible in a shaded sun pad, thanks to the electrical table. The island galley will be equipped with two custom made stainless steel 130-liter fridges, electric BBQ, icemaker and sink. On each side of the galley are carbon fiber deck hatches, one to access the fender storage and the Lithium Ion battery ventilated bay, one to access the crew cabin. The dashboard has been designed like a center-console pod with three generous helm seats and a 1,80-meter futuristic panel with two Garmin Crystal displays used as an integrated bridge.

Protected by the laminated windshield and side wind deflectors, are located the carbon fiber sliding cabin access door and a chaise longue. Another important thing about the Canados Gladiator 631 design resides in the fact that, while the cockpit is open to the sides, the air flow has been studied in wind tunnel in order for the passengers to be fully protected. The side passages towards the foredeck, where an additional sun pad has been installed together with a dinette, are extremely protected by the height of the structural bulwarks. This will allow passengers to move around the boat in safety even at high speed.

Inside, the performance driven philosophy of the model will be felt in lots of details such as sinks, access stairwell, table, taps, door handles, bed bases made of carbon fiber. The owner’s suite will be full beam, amidship located, while the VIP cabin will be located to fore. The central saloon comes with a stylish classic design with rounded shaped sofa, carbon fiber inserts, designer’s table and Poltrona Frau® leather upholstery. But not only the design is elegant, the 2,40m headroom will make it unique in the category.  This layout, upon demand, can be modified to convert the saloon into a third enclosed cabin with two beds.

The exterior of the boat will be entirely painted in Awlgrip® metallic while all cleats and hardware will be in anodized aluminum. The exterior upholstery will also be spectacular as made of a mix of Sunbrella® and Alcantara® Exo, reinforcing the general feeling of luxury. The first Gladiator 631 Next will be powered by twin Volvo Penta® D13 @ 1000 hp, a 6-Cylinder mono-turbo engine known for its reliability, low maintenance and simplicity. But the most impressive characteristics of the Gladiator 631 are invisible, from the underwater hull design to the honeycomb furniture panels and the particularly elaborated composites structures. For more conservative clients, the Gladiator 631 Next will also be offered with smaller 900 HP engines and straight shafts. And for the speed addicted, Canados is currently working on a triple engine Gladiator 431 “Record” with three Nanni-Scania N16. 1150 HP for a top speed of about 70 knots!!!

After delivery, the Canados Gladiator 631 Next number one, will be taken together with two other Gladiators, a 431 and another new model, for a presentation roadshow.  The roadshow will make stops in Capri, Portofino, Monte-Carlo, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Porto Vecchio and Costa Smeralda.
