One of the 4 in the world bottles of Chivas “The Icon 50th Anniversary Limited Edition whisky” has been sold at Sotheby’s for £21,780.
The 4 bottles of Chivas have been made to celebrate the famous Manchester United cup victory in Europe in 1968. There have been made only 4 bottles just to commemorate the 4 goals scored by Manchester United during the European cup final. This is also the oldest Scotch whisky to ever be released under the Chivas Regal brand.
Sandy Hyslop, Chivas Director of Blending, commented: “Chivas The Icon 50th Anniversary Limited Edition is an exquisite blend of our most luxurious and rarest whiskies. We’ve called on years of blending experience to craft a Scotch that truly embodies Manchester United and Chivas’ shared belief that success is a blend – in football, life and Scotch. The buyer of this bottle has got their hands on an iconic piece of history – this is the oldest Chivas blend ever created.”
John Shiels, Chief Executive of Manchester United Foundation, commented: “We are extremely thankful to Chivas for its support and recognition of the Foundation through this auction. This generous donation allows us to continue delivering our wide range of programmes to people across Greater Manchester and will make a huge difference to those who need it most.”
All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Manchester United Foundation, reflecting Chivas and Manchester United’s shared belief in using success to enrich the lives of others.
As for the other 3 bottles, a lucky fan in a social media competition is said to have won the second bottle. The third one has taken pride of place in the Manchester United Museum before it will be offered for private sale at the end of the season, with proceeds again being donated to the Manchester United Foundation. The last one will be placed on display at Strathisla distillery, home of Chivas, in Speyside, Scotland.
