TYKUN: new chase boats by Tommaso Spadolini

Leading Italian shipbuilder MED Group has announced its expansion into the luxury yachting sector with the launch of three new top-performance chase boat models under the newly unveiled TYKUN brand.

Already renowned for its 30 years of expertise in designing and building boats for public administration and the armed forces, the Cervia-based shipyard is known for its one-off, highly customised production models which are perfectly tailored to clients’ operational requirements. Now, that same mission-driven approach is entering the luxury tender space.

Crafted in collaboration with acclaimed architect Tommaso Spadolini and available in 8.5, 10.5 and 12.5-metre sizes, these high-performance chase boats blend sleek aesthetics with cutting-edge technology. Infused with military DNA whilst still maintaining superyacht elegance, TYKUN offers enthusiasts an elevated yachting experience.

Constructed from highly durable and lightweight aluminium, TYKUN hulls provide exceptional customisation. Unlike fibreglass, aluminium does not require moulds, enabling bespoke builds and simplifying structural modifications at any stage, whether during construction or years into the vessel’s life.

This adaptability allows each boat to evolve with its owner’s needs. As a shipyard known for its flexible, one-off builds, TYKUN chase boats can also be customised to a high degree in terms of layout, colours, fabrics and finishes.

Tommaso Spadolini says: “We know that owners will appreciate the flexibility of the design and layout, meaning they can create their perfect pleasure boat, which is enjoyable and easy to handle, no matter the conditions.”

TYKUN models are designed with top performance in mind. Able to reach extraordinary speeds of over 55 knots, they deliver a smooth and stable ride in all sea conditions, thanks to the advanced naval architecture rooted in MED Group’s defence sector know-how. The result? Safe, durable and impeccably seaworthy boats with elegance at their core.

TYKUN’s performance credentials are reinforced by the heritage of MED DEFENSE, the Group’s specialised division that has long supplied RIBs (rigid inflatable boats) to public security and law enforcement agencies. With a deep foundation in ergonomic, fully certified vessels—including NATO-qualified and EC-approved PRO RIBs—MED DEFENSE brings technical innovation and proven reliability to the world of luxury chase boats.

Marco Galimberti, MED Group CEO, says: “Building on our years of experience creating vessels for the defence sector at MED Group, we are very excited to showcase TYKUN to the market. Created with the quality of a superyacht, to the very demanding standards of military vessels, these boats combine the power and grit of a military vessel with the elegance and comfort of a superyacht tender.”

Benedetta Iovane, aka The Luxury Yacht Lady, Strategic Advisor for TYKUN, adds: “We anticipate that our TYKUN boats will be a welcome addition to the market. There’s nothing else quite like them out there. Few chase boats combine lightweight aluminium construction with defence-grade performance and custom superyacht detailing in such a compelling way.”

Currently employing 60 highly skilled workers at its Cervia shipyard, MED Group is preparing for significant growth. In 2026, it plans to relocate to a larger facility and further expand its workforce.

Looking to the future, the first unit of the 10.5-metre TYKUN models is set to make her hotly anticipated debut at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show (24–27 September). Furthermore, the first of the largest models in the new range, the 12.5-metre chase boat, has been ordered and is expected to launch in 2026.
