The MODX 70 set sail from the port of Fontvieille in Monaco as the ambassador vessel for Monaco Explorations’ Mission Greece.
The aim of this scientific, diplomatic and outreach expedition is to increase knowledge and protection of the Mediterranean sea.
H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco personally cast off the mooring lines, marking the official departure of this Mediterranean mission.
A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE MODX 70
In October 2025, our 100% electric, zero CO₂ emissions catamaran, equipped with two automated, retractable Aeroforce© wings and complete energy autonomy, will become the official platform for the Monaco Explorations’ Mission Greece.
This scientific, diplomatic and outreach expedition supports the global 30×30 goal, which aims to protect 30% of the Mediterranean sea by 2030.
H.S.H. PRINCE ALBERT II OF MONACO LAUNCH THE GREECE MISSION
On 25 September in Monaco, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco personally cast off our mooring lines, marking the official start of the mission.
The Sovereign spent some time aboard the MODX 70, discovering our pioneering technological innovations and discussing with the team the challenges of autonomous and sustainable navigation.
This symbolic gesture underlines the central role of the MODX 70 in the protection and understanding of the Mediterranean sea.
A SCIENTIFIC MISSION IN THE HEART OF THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA
From Monaco to Athens, Alonissos, Volos and Syros, this 5-weeks Mission Greece aims to better understand and protect the Mediterranean sea biodiversity.
At each stopover, the MODX 70 will serve as a scientific and educational platform for large-scale projects:
— Plankto-Med: mapping planktonic biodiversity and comparing ecosystems inside and outside Marine Protected Areas.
— BGC-Argo-ION: deploying profiling floats up to 2,000 m depth to measure temperature, salinity, oxygen and pH, and better anticipate the effects of climate change.
— SailingBox: testing accessible marine sensors to measure pH, oxygen and salinity, making science collaborative and reproducible.
— Marine forests and microplastics: analyse the role of Posidonia seagrass beds and algae forests in capturing pollutants.
— ExoFish-Med: involve divers and marine area managers in monitoring invasive alien species.
— Collaborative bathymetry: enriching knowledge of the seabed and improving nautical charts.
This research will be complemented by awareness-raising workshops, virtual reality immersions and institutional meetings, strengthening the links between science, society and marine governance.
INNOVATION, AUTONOMY & COMMITMENT
This mission highlights the MODX 70’s ability to combine energy autonomy, 100% electric propulsion and zero CO₂ impact.
It demonstrates that a new era of navigation is possible, where innovation becomes a concrete lever for preserving the Mediterranean sea and inspiring global maritime transition.
