Last week, Blancpain introduced two playful yet powerful new Fifty Fathoms Automatique models in a 38 mm format, distinguished by striking mother-of-pearl dégradé dials in petal pink and smoky black.
This week, the Maison continues its momentum, unveiling a series of more classic, genderless 38 mm references. Available in stainless steel, grade 23 titanium and 18 ct red gold, with sunburst blue or black dials, these pieces broaden the line’s versatility and appeal.
A Significant Move for the Fifty Fathoms Collection
The arrival of the new case size represents an important evolution for Blancpain’s iconic diver’s watch. This isn’t simply a scaled-down version. Proportions have been carefully reworked to ensure balance, harmony, and presence on any wrist, whether slim or substantial. The result is a refreshed, versatile silhouette that remains unmistakably Fifty Fathoms.
A Legacy Continues
Created in 1953 under theleadership of then-CEO Jean-Jacques Fiechter – a passionate diver and an early adopter of underwater exploration – the Fifty Fathoms was the world’s first true diver’s watch. It debuted pioneering features such as a lockable rotating bezel, enhanced water resistance, a contrasted dial with luminous markers, an automatic movement, and anti-magnetic protection. These characteristics not only set the template for professional diver’s watches but remain fundamental to the Fifty Fathoms today.
A New Size for Every Wrist
In keeping with Blancpain’s longstanding support of ocean exploration, through the Blancpain Ocean Commitment (BOC), the launch of the pink and black motherof-pearl editions offered a bold, expressive take on the Fifty Fathoms.
Now, the 38 mm line expands to include more classic, versatile models. While demand has been especially strong among women seeking a sporty, technically accomplished watch suited to a slimmer wrist, the 38 mm format is far from gender specific. It appeals equally to men who prefer a more discreet, lightweight case. In short: the Fifty Fathoms Automatique is now a line for everyone.
The New 38 mm Fifty Fathoms Automatique Line
The expanded 38 mm Fifty Fathoms Automatique line includes five distinct versions:
• a polished stainless steel case with a black dial and black bezel, embodying a timeless and essential design true to the spirit of the original 1953 Fifty Fathoms;
• a satin-brushed grade 23 titanium case paired with a blue dial and bezel, offering a contemporary interpretation that combines lightness, durability, and striking color;
• a satin-brushed 18 ct red gold case with a blue dial and bezel, presenting a rich, sophisticated, and warm aesthetic. Joining these three are two striking additions introduced last week:
• a polished 18 ct red gold case paired with a black mother-of-pearl dégradé dial and black bezel;
• and another in brushed grade 23 titanium featuring a pink motherof-pearl dégradé dial with a matching pink bezel, each bringing a refined, iridescent touch to the iconic diver’s watch.
All models feature dials with oversized luminescent markers and sunburst finishes, framed by Blancpain’s signature unidirectional rotating bezel with domed sapphire insert.
Each watch is available with a selection of straps including tropic rubber, sail-canvas, and NATO, as well as titanium or stainless steel bracelets featuring alternating satinbrushed and polished finish.
Technical Precision Inside
Powering the new 38 mm models is Blancpain Manufacture calibre 1150. Beating at 3 Hz, this automatic movement offers 100 hours of power reserve and benefits from a silicon balance spring for superior anti-magnetic performance. The sapphire crystal case back reveals refined finishes, including an 18 ct gold rotor with a NAC coating, inspired by the original 1953 design.
Three Sizes. One Iconic Collection
With the introduction of these new 38 mm references, the Fifty Fathoms Automatique line now stands as a complete, coherent family, offering 38, 42, and 45 mm options. No longer defined by gender or wrist size, the Fifty Fathoms is, more than ever, a watch for all.
