Eco-Friendly Urbanism

Adopting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, The Ellinikon is designed according to the latest sustainability principles to be an ecological achievement and an important source of awareness for society.

The Ellinikon, the largest urban regeneration aims to redefine the urban living experience and create a city of the future based on innovation, sustainability and culture.

LAMDA Development’s strategy in the design and implementation of this large and ambitious project aims to achieve minimal impact on water consumption and waste management, transition to zero net emissions and build resilience in a changing climate, create economic value, accelerate social well-being and empower people.

The first building of the major Ellinikon investment delivered in September 2023, the pioneering complex for disabled people on Vouliagmeni Avenue that houses four clubs on a plot of land totalling 11,500 sqm, is a bioclimatic building designed according to sustainable development standards. It will be surrounded by a garden with 12,000 plants, shrubs and flowers of Greek nature, as well as 142 trees.

The bioclimatic approach and sustainability principles are also followed in Little Athens, The Ellinikon’s exciting new neighbourhood next to the park and the beach, which will offer more than 1,000 smart residences of high aesthetics in iconic organic architecture complexes designed by Greek and international architects, with a wealth of choice in shops, restaurants and leisure services.

The big star among the green buildings of The Ellinikon is of course the first green skyscraper in Greece, the Riviera Tower. When completed, LAMDA Development says it will be one of the greenest skyscrapers in the world and a model of sustainable design, incorporating best environmental practices and the latest international safety protocols. The water element that will stand out will incorporate other green features. For instance, special rainwater harvesting systems will be installed on the balconies to make use of water. Likewise, the design aims towards minimising the carbon footprint and according to the design studies the building’s equipment will ensure 35% less energy consumption overall. It should be noted that work on the Riviera Tower is currently underway, with the foundation already completed and the building expected to be delivered in early 2026.

Based on the bioclimatic rationale, in addition to the residential areas, the commercial centres of the investment have been designed and are expected to be implemented. Riviera Galleria, a complex of buildings with a total surface area of 23,000 m2 and 19,000 m2 of gross leasable area, designed by the internationally renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, has been designed to be in perfect harmony with the natural environment, evoking the harmonious movement of waves.

Ellinikon Mall, the city’s new 185,000 square metre meeting place, also has a green identity, offering state-of-the-art shopping, entertainment and business experiences. The project includes the installation of 4,500 photovoltaic panels over a total area of 11,600 sqm, while the squares and green spaces that will dominate the area will offer visitors a new way of living in a modern, highly aesthetic infrastructure.
