Countdown to launch: The first Columbus Atlantique 38m prepares to touch the water

The first Columbus Atlantique 38m prepares for its maiden launch, merging “Architecture for Voyagers” with groundbreaking stern innovation and performance.

The shipbuilding industry is turning its attention toward Savona as the Columbus Atlantique 38m prepares to touch the water for the very first time. This new Columbus Yachts creation is now ready to begin her journey, with the global yachting community eagerly awaiting the official launch to witness the practical application of the innovative solutions promised by the shipyard.

The “architecture for voyagers” philosophy

The Atlantique 38m is the result of a close collaboration with the renowned Hot Lab studio. The core concept, dubbed “Architecture for Voyagers,” goes beyond mere aesthetics to redefine how the vessel interacts with the marine environment. The exterior lines draw inspiration from the world of classic sailing yachts and luxury grand touring automobiles, creating a profile that is both aerodynamic and timeless. The challenge for the designers was to maintain a total volume below the critical 299 GT limit without compromising the sense of spaciousness and luxury expected of a vessel of this caliber.

Innovation in the beach club and stern

One of the most disruptive technical features of the Atlantique 38m is the configuration of the aft deck. In contrast to traditional beach clubs that are often isolated from the main deck, the stern here has been designed as an open “terrace” over the sea. The central infinity pool is strategically positioned at a height of just 50 centimeters above the water’s surface. This layout, combined with folding side bulwarks, allows for the horizontal expansion of the deck, creating a massive, seamless relaxation platform that eliminates visual and physical barriers to the open ocean.

Variable geometry on the upper deck

Innovation continues on the upper deck, where the dining area is enclosed by a high-tech system of semi-circular glass surfaces. This mechanism allows the windows to move both vertically and horizontally, offering total flexibility. With a simple activation of the system, the space can be transformed from a fully protected, climate-controlled salon into an outdoor deck benefiting from natural ventilation. This solution allows the vessel to adapt instantly to changing weather conditions, ensuring maximum functionality across all latitudes.

Technical excellence and operational capacity

Within the engine room, the Atlantique 38m houses two powerful MAN V12 2000hp engines. This configuration allows the yacht to reach a maximum speed of 22 knots and a cruising speed of 19 knots, offering top-tier performance for the displacement-to-planing category. Furthermore, storage management is exemplary. The vessel features a starboard-side garage for a 4.45-meter tender and a specially designed bow hangar for a second 3.25-meter tender and a rescue boat. This choice completely frees up the stern, allowing guests to enjoy the beach club without the presence of technical equipment.

Toward the official launch

The launch of the Columbus Atlantique 38m serves as a confirmation of Columbus Yachts’ commitment to continuous evolution. By integrating solutions previously found only on much larger yachts, the Atlantique 38m sets new standards in ergonomics and quality of life at sea. Stay tuned for the official launch, which is expected to showcase the final details of the custom interior design meticulously crafted by the shipyard.
