Bestevaer 53 motor yacht is ready from KM Yachtbuilders

A new 53 feet aluminium motor yacht is going to be added to the Makkum shipyard’s portfolio.

The project is a result of KM Yachtbuilders new cooperation with the designers of Dykstra Naval Architects in Amsterdam, over the past year after working together for the ‘Bestevaer’ sailing yachts. Bestevaer 53 is a motor yacht with a distinctive look, not one that gets lost in the crowd. The motor yacht will be recognizable by its design and construction and will stand out from other yachts on the water. The underwater hull was designed by Studio Delta.

Eeuwe Kooi: “We’re seeing that the sailing group is getting smaller and that not many young people are interested in having their own sailing yacht. At the moment we still have enough work in the pipeline with newbuild and refit yachts, but it’s important to look ahead. That explains the decision to develop a motor yacht. Not only that: it’s great to work on something new, to innovate and to move outside of your comfort zone. We feel that our target group will mainly be former sailors, but we also expect the new yacht to appeal to water sports enthusiasts who are less attracted by a sailing yacht. The motor yacht we’re developing is of course made of aluminium, the perfect material to ‘explore’ and make that trip to Norway or the Shetlands. Safety, comfort and ease of use are the most important aspects of the yacht. ”

A striking feature on board is the large aft deck, which can be freely laid out by the owner. It can be kept clear so that the canoe and electric bikes can be placed on it, or the owner can create a seating area that is easily movable if space is needed for the grandchildren’s toys. The aft bulkhead consists of large sliding doors that can be folded open completely so that the outside and inside blend into each other. The saloon is long and wide so that there’s room for a sitting area on the port side and a full galley to starboard. The salon is the main living area for day-to-day activities. The helm position is large enough for two people to share the navigation. Below in the peak are the owner’s cabin and a smaller guest cabin, with a wet cell and toilet. There is also a large storage space/pantry on the port side. Next to the wheelhouse is a door in the bulwark that can be used to quickly go outside to moor using the middle bollard. The gangways are 50cm wide and provide easy access to the aft deck and foredeck where there is another storage space in the peak.

Jildou Huisman, Marketing & Sales, adds: “Boot Düsseldorf is a great opportunity to introduce this yacht. The scale model and the renderings give a clear impression of what the yacht will look like. And as with any custom yacht we make, this one can also be adapted to the wishes of the owner. The yacht should fit its owner like a bespoke suit. Being on board together, with family, grandchildren or friends is important to sharing the way of life of a water sports enthusiast with others. It’s no longer just about the yacht or the sailing, but about the goal and the destination, and creating memories together. A nice cup of hot chocolate after meandering through the Norwegian fjords, or having a barbecue on the aft deck alongside on the jetty with the neighbours after a day’s canoeing. These are the moments that will stay with you forever.”

KM Yachtbuilders has, for 20 years now, been building 40 to 100 ft aluminium sailing yachts. You can find the company at Boot Düsseldorf in hall 7a, stand D02 to talk about the new project and upcoming events since the company will not be displaying a yacht.
