Awave 48 is full of brillant solutions

Awave is the name of the walkaround range from Thy Shipyards.

Awave 48 is the first model of a range that is developing in the segment up to 70 feet, 21 meters. This boat is the result of decades of construction experience of the workers and technicians of the nautical center of Giammoro (Messina) who have built over 380 boats between 18 and 30 meters under the Aicon Yachts and Morgan Yachts brands.

Awave 48, which made its first appearance at the Cannes Yachting Festival and has received widespread acclaim since its debut, was designed by architect Lino Siclari, who was able to concentrate an innovative design in just 14.60 meters which gives Awave 48 a strong personality, vast outdoor spaces, to fully enjoy the sea, the wind, navigation, nature and large areas below deck for relaxation, intimacy and on-board comfort. Elegant furnishings of mature sobriety and finishing details worked with artisanal skill complete the external equipment and the internal décor.

The main deck covers an area of 52 square meters, a record in the category, and features movable and foldable terraces to further extend the available surface area by another 5 square meters. Ideal for bathing and conviviality on board, the mobile terraces can be maneuvered easily and quickly, transforming Awave 48 from a thoroughbred of the sea into a seaside terrace and vice versa in just a few seconds, allowing for quick departures in case of need.

There are two sundecks on deck, the stern one has three seats and the bow has two generous seats, completed by a small lounge area with facing sofas, an ideal corner for sipping an aperitif at sunset. All these large spaces make Awave 48 ideal as a Party Boat, for dancing, having fun and enjoying life “au fil de l’eau”.

Amidships, protected by the compact and effective arrow-shaped T-Top, which widens towards the stern for better shade and narrows towards the bow to allow better access to the wheelhouse, there is the kitchenette, complete with burners. induction, sink and refrigerator, placed immediately bordering the dinette made up of two facing sofas with up to five seats each, separated by the extendable teak table, equipped with a specially designed and made support, which transforms from a coffee table to a table dining table of 2.20 meters in length, for a comfortable and quick service from the stove to the table.

The pilot seat offers two enveloping armchairs as well as the possibility of two further lateral seats, all in front of the two-level console which houses the two multifunctional touch screens for navigation and control of the engines and liquids, the buttons, the handcuffs engine control and the practical joy stick for fine maneuvers in port and easy docking, maximum simplification for mooring even in restricted waters. The steering wheel is actually an elegant sports steering wheel enriched by the “AWAVE” logo which stands out in the center of a natural teak disc.

Awave 48 offers generous spaces below deck, starting from the cabin height which is over two meters for the entire boat. The forward double cabin is equipped with two wardrobes and a notable area in front of the bed, completed by many shelves for objects, books and smartphones. The bed head, made up of four padded horizontal bands, can be customized in materials and colors.

The second cabin with two single beds amidships is surprisingly spacious and high, allowing even people of considerable stature to stand up, a solution that cannot be found in other boats in the category. The décor is made with pickled oak for the vertical tops and a dark wengé color for the horizontal tops. But the flexibility of the shipyard is available to specific customizations and tastes of the owners.

The sterndrive engine is made up of 2 Yanmar diesel engines of 370 horsepower each, or 2 Volvo Penta petrol engines of 430 horsepower each, or 2 Volvo Penta diesel engines of 440 horsepower each. With the Yanmars the maximum speed is 33 knots, while with the Volvos it is 38 knots.

When I designed this boat – reveals Lino Siclari – I started from the project of a Maxi Rib, which had to have tubes that were not too intrusive. But in reality, I had in mind a Maxi Tender, or rather a Party Boat, with opening bulwarks and a large stern platform. I benchmarked with the main players on the stage, such as Wally and Sacs Rebel, and Awave 48 was born, which has what the others don’t have.

I wanted to design a Hybrid day cruiser in layout to offer owners the possibility of choosing different opportunities for using the large stern Beach Area. The different layouts can make this walk around a Party Boat or a Maxi Tender equipped with useful spaces for loading bikes, sailing boards and toys“.

The comfortable gangways of the Awave 48 are large and safe, equipped with many hidden and non-invasive handrails. The boat, although wide at the stern, guarantees fast and effective responses both in terms of speed and seakeeping.

The two cabins are very welcoming and the second, with single beds, is also full-height in the central part, a feature that cannot be found in the category; however, she is not a tall boat, on the contrary, there is only one step towards the stern and the waistline is pleasantly downwards.

“I wanted to develop the theme of edges and dihedrals in modeling the surfaces, which give Awave 48 a distinctive and recognizable design. For ease of management and ease of mooring, I placed two towers with cable glands and bollards at the stern, for safe mooring without damaging the hull.

The hull has been tank tested and gives excellent results in terms of riding over the waves and seaworthiness. The external protection of the hull looks like a tube and is in fact an effective fender with internal T-Shock foam to absorb small shocks when mooring. Fine carpentry enriches the boat both internally and externally.”
