Debuting at Miami, the 50 Sail marks Aquila’s historic first sailing catamaran, merging motor yacht luxury with eco-friendly hybrid performance.
The yachting world recently witnessed a historic milestone as Aquila Catamarans, the global leader in power catamarans, officially entered the sailing market with the debut of the Aquila 50 Sail. Unveiled at the 2026 Miami International Boat Show, this vessel represents a sophisticated blend of the luxury typically found in motor yachts and the timeless freedom of wind-powered travel. It marks the first model in a new dedicated sailing line that seeks to redefine expectations for performance and liveability on the water.
Innovative design and structural ergonomics
The design philosophy of the Aquila 50 Sail, developed in collaboration with the renowned JnJ Design studio, focuses on an “Explorer” aesthetic that prioritizes both rugged capability and refined elegance. One of the most striking architectural features is the direct bridge-to-bow staircase. This innovation allows passengers to move safely and effortlessly from the expansive flybridge down to the forward deck without having to navigate the side decks. Furthermore, the traditional forward trampoline has been replaced by a solid forward cockpit, creating a secure and comfortable social zone that remains dry and accessible even while underway.
Luxurious interior and modular living spaces
Step inside the main salon and you are greeted by an environment that feels more like a luxury apartment than a traditional sailboat. Massive panoramic windows wrap around the interior, providing 360-degree views and an abundance of natural light. The layout of the Aquila 50 Sail is remarkably flexible to accommodate different lifestyles, offering configurations ranging from four to six cabins. Each cabin is designed with an emphasis on privacy and high-end comfort, featuring private entrances and dedicated “dry head” bathrooms where the shower is kept separate from the vanity. The master suite is particularly impressive, utilizing large hull windows to maintain a constant connection with the surrounding seascape.
Advanced propulsion and hybrid technology
The engineering beneath the surface is just as forward-thinking as the aesthetics. While the 50 Sail comes equipped with reliable diesel engines for traditional cruising, it also introduces the optional Hybrid Ocean Drive™ system. This technology allows owners to enjoy near-silent electric propulsion for harbor maneuvers and short trips, switching to diesel power for long-distance passages. To support this eco-conscious approach, the yacht’s hardtop is specifically designed to house a significant array of solar panels, which work to recharge the battery banks and reduce the need for generator usage while at anchor.
Future outlook
The Aquila 50 Sail is more than just a new model; it is a bold statement of intent. By utilizing high-quality resin infusion construction and focusing on “home-like” comforts, Aquila has created a catamaran for those who wish to harness the wind without sacrificing the amenities of a motor yacht. With a Category A Ocean rating, this vessel is prepared for serious blue-water cruising. This launch is only the beginning for the brand’s sailing division, as the 50 Sail will soon be joined by the smaller 44 Sail and the flagship 65 Sail, signaling a long-term commitment to the global sailing community.
