June 21 will be “Alfa Romeo Day,” a symbolic event to celebrate both the 50th years of the Alfa Romeo Museum and the anniversary of the Biscione brand, traditionally held on the weekend closest to June 24.
This year is particularly significant for the Alfa Romeo Museum, for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of its opening in 1976: a milestone that confirms the Museum’s role as an international reference point for the brand’s history. Now included in the “History” area of the new BOTTEGAFUORISERIE project, it reaffirms and makes even more tangible an extraordinary and iconic legacy. A year packed with events focusing on the icons of the past, automotive culture and shared experiences: the common thread will be passion, expressed through the values that have defined the brand for over a century, with driving pleasure first and foremost.
The program begins on March 29 with the year’s first Backstage, dedicated to 100 Years of Touring.
The collaboration between Alfa Romeo and Carrozzeria Touring has now continued for a century: from the first bodies and the epic Superleggera berlinetta to the assembly of the 33 Stradale in the present day. A conference will follow this bond through the cars, characters and events that have traced its contours. The event is organized in conjunction with the International Touring Superleggera Register and will also include a parade on the museum’s track of cars with Touring bodywork.
To be followed in April by the celebrations of the 1600 Spider: Spider is Alfa Romeo. The “Duetto” is 60.
A symbol of an era and still one of the most beloved by Alfisti fans, the 1600 Spider “Duetto” was produced in four series from 1966 to 1994 and its appeal shows no sign of diminishing. The Museum will be celebrating open-air driving on the 60th anniversary of the iconic spider’s launch with a conference, parade and exhibition for enthusiasts to put their cars on show at the Museum until December. The exhibition will be divided into four phases: from April to June: “cuttlefish bones” will be on display from April through June, the “truncated tail” in July and August, “aerodynamics” in September and October, and the “IV series” in November and December.
On May 10, the “Cuore Sportivo” exhibition will open, telling the story of Alfa Romeo’s motoring through its main automotive, aeronautical, marine, and industrial productions. But also its research and prototypes, intertwined with company’s history and people.The biggest event of the year will be Alfa Romeo Day on June 21. As per tradition, the weekend closest to June 24 will mark Alfa Romeo’s anniversary with a series of initiatives dedicated to enthusiasts. This year, the celebrations also extend to the anniversary of the Museum, 50 years later still the “home” of all Alfisti fans and the place where history is preserved, leveraged and transmitted to future generations. The day will include a conference on the Museum’s history, values and challenges, the now-customary event for representatives of clubs from all over the world, and many other activities. One of the most eagerly awaited events is the Open Day at the Alfa Romeo Documentation Center, which houses 6,000 linear meters of historical documents and responds to over 10,000 requests from all over the world every year: a unique opportunity to explore the archives that preserve the brand’s technical, industrial and cultural memory.
The Museum is located in Arese (Milan) and is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except Tuesdays.
Entry provides access to the museum spaces and visits to the depots, with their cars and materials from the “Collezione,” not usually on public view.
