Barracuda 27 concept

Alberto Mancini is the head of Trieste based Amyachtdesign and creator of the Barracuda 27 concept.
This runabout ALL MADE IN SARDINIA is the natural evolution – in a smaller size - of the Barracuda 42 design (introduced at the end of 2010, in the water and presented to the press at the end of June 2012).

The Barracuda 27 maintains the unmistakable style of the foredeck with the combined windscreen and skylight, along with clean and elegant lines with a touch of vintage appeal. The Barracuda will be presented in the summer of 2012. The Barracuda's 8.2 meter length allows her to be trailered, giving the owner exceptional freedom of movement. Ideal as a tender for larger yachts.

Technical Highlights and Thrilling Performance.

The Barracuda 27 was created using applied studies typical of larger vessels. Built in advanced resin composites, the hull was computer optimized in the Navalhead Engineering Studio using state of the art computerized fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques.

Tank testing was carried out at the Trieste Naval facilities; thanks to the structural studies carried out by Biselli Engineering the results were excellent, confirming the 27's performance, comfort and sea keeping qualities.
The Barracuda 27 is offered with two propulsion system options: a single stern drive Volvo 300hp D4, giving a maximum speed of 40 knots; or twin stern drive Volvo 220hp D3's for a maximum speed of 44 knots (estimated speeds at average load of 2.8 tons).




European Yacht Awards

Each year Europe's best in the boating industry are rewarded with the "Oscars of watersports": The international "European Yacht of the year 2012" award is being presented in 4 categories. The jury consists of editors-in-chief and yacht test conductors of Europe's top eighteen Sailing- and motoryacht-magazines. Traditionally the awards are presented during boot Düsseldorf at the industry meeting of Delius Klasing publishing house and the trade fair Düsseldorf. This year, publisher Konrad Delius and director of boot Goetz-Ulf Jungmichel welcomed about 400 guests from the European Watersport industry to the award presentation.


Every year up to 100 new sailing boats emerge on the European market, but only four yards are being honored with the "European yacht of the year" award. "This year's tests in Ijmuiden/Holland and Barcelona were characterized by a lot of wind. During the boat tests, storms of up to 50 knots hit the North Sea, resulting in waves up to four meters high. And over the Catalanian coast, winds blew with up to 6 Beaufort, creating a chaotic sea. There had never been such winds at the test dates before, a real endurance test for the boats, that all of them mastered well, some even exceptional.", says Jochen Rieker, editor-in-chief of YACHT. "In general, more emphasis was put on sailing performance. Not just the winners but every yacht we tested was fun to sail. Furthermore, there is a very consequent development in several directions, such as comfort in the category of family-cruisers, or speed and fun in the category of performance-cruisers and special-yachts. All in all it was a great year", Rieker resumes.

Ferretti Custom Line 100'

In London the Ferretti Custom Line 100' was awarded the prestigious Motor Boat of The Year 2012 prize in the "Custom Yacht Award" category. The prize was awarded by the publishing group IPC Media, an authoritative point of reference for the international nautical industry. The Motor Boat of the Year award, annually elects boats with the most exclusive designs, with excellent performance and the latest technological innovations.


The winners were selected by a committee of experts made up of journalists from Motor Boats Monthly and Motor Boat&Yachting.

This is the second prize awarded within a few months to this new model of the Ferretti Custom Line is: at the Cannes Nautical Boat Show, in September 2011, the Custom Line 100' was awarded the Best Layout in the Flying Bridge category over 24 metres.

Created from the close collaboration of Studio Zuccon International Project, the AYT - Advanced Yacht Technology, the naval research and design centre of the Ferretti Group, and the team of architects and designers from Centro Stile Ferretti Group, Ferretti Custom Line 100' embodies the construction and project design experience of the Shipyard which, on the one hand combines sporty design and technology, and on the other hand combines innovative design solutions and comfort, striking a perfect balance. Ferretti Custom Line 100' is part of the Custom Line, alongside the 124', 112' NEXT and 97' models.

Externally the Ferretti Custom Line 100' is immediately striking for its geometric and modern lines, which give it a very sporty profile. The overall image is that of great lightness, thanks to the presence of a continuous large window that extends from the aft of the main deck to the dashboard, which is raised and linked to the external fly, and which has large triangular windows on both walls, towards the bow. The right wall has a foldable saxboard, and at the ship owner's request, it is possible to install a system of electrical sliding glass doors, to directly access the terrace overlooking the sea from the saloon. The interiors are modern and valuable materials are the main protagonists: teak floors, walnut wood with milled leather and LED panels: in fact, for this model, the Shipyard has created technical lighting which is inbuilt in this boat layout in order to obtain lights that best characterize some of the internal areas, providing comfort and relaxation. These elements create an innovative mixture, based on the Ship owner's desires. In fact, like the rest of the Ferretti Custom Line range, on board the 100', every non-structural detail, such as the furniture, fabrics and the décor can be customized by the Ship owner who, with the help of the architects and the designers of Centro Stile, can take up the offers of the best Italian and International companies to create a tailor-made yacht. The engines on board also guarantee the best performance and comfort: the cruising speed is 24 knots while the maximum speed reaches 26 knots. As regards safety and comfort equipment, on board the Custom Line 100' there are solutions of the latest generation: the yacht is equipped with an anti-roll stability Mitsubishi ARG (Anti Rolling Gyro), capable of reducing boat rolling by over 50%, which is the greatest cause of discomfort especially while in transit or in port.

Sergio Cutolo Yachts at at the World Superyacht Award

Three yachts designed by Sergio Cutolo are finalists at the World Superyacht Award 2012

At the next World Superyacht Award ceremony, the "Oscar" of the Superyacht sector, that will be held in May 2012 in Istanbul there three yachts designed by Sergio Cutolo's Hydro Tec to have been nominated for the award, the M/Y Talisman C, the M/Y Prima and the M/Y O'Pati.

The seventh edition of the World Superyacht Awards 2012 is the award that the Superyacht industry assigns to the best superyachts built in 2011 from shipyards all around the world. Not more than 10% of the 500+ yachts bigger than 100' motor yacht that has been built in 2011 were admitted to the award finals in Istanbul and three of these ones are those whose technical project was signed by Sergio Cutolo.


The three yachts are competing in three different categories: in the category "Displacement Motor Yacht of 1,300GT to 2,999GT" the Talisman C built by Proteksan is competing; in the category "Displacement Motor Yacht of 500GT to 1,299GT" the Prima by Palumbo Shipyard was selected and finally in the category "Two-deck & Open Semi-displacement or Planing Motor Yachts" is willing to win O'Pati the fast open yacht by Golden Yachts.

Talisman C is the spectacular steel and light alloy 70 metres M/Y built by the turkish yard Proteksan that showed performance superior to expectations and it is the biggest to come out of this most successful Turkish yard to date. Sergio Cutolo's Hydro Tec have been responsible for all the engineering and technical design of this new yacht (hull design, structural design, propulsion design, equipment engineering). This the third Proteksan M/Y that Sergio Cutolo has worked on after the successfully projects Vinidrea II and Camaleon B.

M/Y "Prima" is the biggest motoryacht ever built in centre-south of Italy and is part of the Columbus range from Palumbo shipyard. She is a steel and aluminum 54 m motoryacht with a full displacement of 700t, a maximum speed of 18 knots and six staterooms including the full beam Owner's cabin with balcony and VIP cabin on the bridge deck and 12 crew berths plus Captain's cabin. Prima was built in compliance with the Rules of ABS and she is suitable for unrestricted navigation with following class notation Maltese Cross A1, Yachting Service, UMS. She also obtained RINA Green plus as an additional notation class.
The third finalist yacht is the 39 metres O'Pati (previously known under the project name O'Rea). Built in Greece for Golden Yacht, has naval architecture by Sergio Cutolo. Entirely in aluminium she's an impressive 39.60m open yacht entirely painted in black. This planning hull yacht is powered by three 1,492kW Caterpillar engines coupled to KaMeWa waterjets giving a top speed of 34 knots and a cruising speed of 30 knots. O'Pati is the fourth Golden Yacht yachts engineered by Sergio Cutolo after the two 52 metres sisterships Victory V (former O'Ptasia) and O'Neiro and the most recent 53 m O'Rama.

To summarize, three quite different yachts: a 70 meters steel and aluminum displacement yacht built in Turkey, a 54 meters steel and aluminum displacement yacht built in Italy and a fast 39-meter open all-aluminum built in Greece. All different projects by type and technology testimony of a technical skill and a very unusual eclecticism, making the naval architecture and yacht design studio leaded by Sergio Cutolo one of the most active on the international market.

Built at Royal Huisman Shipyard with naval architecture by Dykstra, she epitomises the classical romance of ocean voyaging. With the 37m classic sailing yacht, Project Bugamena due for launch at Royal Huisman in the coming months as well as the fast 43m Frers cruising sloop Black Papillon, a 48m classic and the 22m ocean cruising sloop Bougainville, all well in build, 2012 looks to be even more exciting for the highly skilled Rhoades Young team.
