Wally Cento (Hull)

The first 31m (102ft) Wally Cento hull has been completed and released from its female mould at Green Marine. The black hull was turned upside down and moved into one of four recently commissioned 38m (125ft) ovens at Green Marine's new UK facility in Hythe.

Designed by Judel Vrolijk, the hull has been built to a very high specification using materials and processes usually used for Grand Prix racing yachts.

"We are working on a very tight schedule to complete this Cento on time and expect to launch it in July 2012," says Green Marine project manager Simon Smith. "Every single task is planned and monitored on a daily basis. Our experienced team of boatbuilders have delivered another top quality product on time."

Owner's representative James Stagg added: "The team here have had their work cut out with an aggressive structural fit-out schedule. They have managed to meet the key milestone of fitting the deck and rolling over on time this was no mean feat and we are very happy with the workmanship."

The boat will now be faired outside while the builders carry on installing secondary structures inside the hull.  The system and interior fit-out will start before Christmas.

Baltic 72 Grand Prix

Baltic 72 Grand Prix

Baltic Yachts has signed a contract for a mini maxi yacht with the target to compete with the fastest ones ever built. It is a joint R&D project with the owner, Mr Alessandro Rombelli, and delivery will take place in summer 2012. Baltic 72 Grand Prix is being designed by Rolf Vrolijk and his esteemed judel & vrolijk design bureau. Rolf Vrolijk was among other projects the chief designer for the America’s Cup winner, Alinghi, in 2003 and 2007.
Mr Rombelli is known as a very experienced and racing oriented sailor. In 2010 he bought Baltic 65 Stig, a high performance cruising yacht, which has been very competitive under the IRC rating rule against all-out race yachts such as the STP65. So impressed by the performance of this boat, he decided to go all the way and build a pure racing boat.
Mr Rombelli explains: "I have participated with Stig in various regattas with very positive results and I have had enormous fun. Therefore I decided to push this passion of mine to the next level and build a state of the art 72 footer to be able to compete among the pure racers.
The decision on the yard has been a very simple one. I like Baltic Yachts and I love Stig and I could not think of a different yard with the same quality and dedication. I'm convinced that the new 72 foot yacht will be built according to the best practices and will be a very fine yacht incorporating all the new technologies and developments."
In opposite from Baltic 65 Stig, which has a full interior, Baltic 72 Grand Prix will be a pure racer with a minimum of interior as required by IRC racing regulation. “Technology and performance will be the key factors for this project and no stone will be left unturned in the pursuit of building this racing yacht,” says project manager Daniel Wahlroos.
